if only we could have 5 posey's on the court at the same time. He has no quit and is always involved in the action. He's going to end up being one of the best defenders ever. U can't always bring your offensive every game but u can bring your defense. resign him for the max!

yes, that is true. but paying role players max salaries will keep you from sniffing the playoffs...

well, really, i don't know about paying him the max, i just wish they would sign him for 3 or 4 years. I do think he is the third best player on the team and is goin to end up what everyone hoped mobley would be

JPo will not command the max, or anything above MCE. He should be affordable, I hope he remains.

This from local fav, Peter Vecsey:

'I asked Steve Francis if he has learned any Chinese from hanging out with Yao. He proceeded to emit a wonderfully accented expression, explaining: "It means stay aggressive. I yell that at Yao whenever he gets passive."
Neither Francis nor any other Rocket will ever have to direct that phrase at James Posey. Talk about a guy with unlimited energy and corresponding talent at small forward/off guard. Moreover, he defends and helps out everyone else without losing track of his assignment.
Against the 76ers, Posey accumulated 19 points, 12 rebounds and blocked an Iverson jumper. Down the stretch while everyone else was dragging, he was prancing around the court on fresh legs. I hereby nominate him as the league's free agent sleeper of this summer.'

Vec JPo's agent? No, but he flaks like he is.

I really hope he stays. He is so much better than Mobley, and he play hard on BOTH sides of the court without having part of his game suffer.

Rockets fans feel so burned from the Moochie, Cato, and Taylor signings that they don't want to give a true starting role player a good contract. :(

I love Poz too. But I've heard a lot of people, including Charlie and Rich on 610, say the Rox should let him go. Plus people on this board, except for this post I guess, never give him his props.

Am I missing something about Poz, cause all I see is hustle from the guy.

that's because many people believe juaquin hawkins can do the same thing at a cheaper price.

personally, i hope they can ink him for 3 years at ~4mill. no longer than that, though...

Charlie and Rich are quite expert on all things sport (NOT). Charlie can encyclopediacally recite stats and such and bully wimpy, simpy Rich.

Charlie and Rich as arbiters of talent? No way. Listen to 'Afternoon Edition' instead, at least there when you're misinformed it won't find its way to this Board.

hawkins doesn't have the athletic ability that posey does and couldn't throw a rock into the ocean

That said, I hope Hawk is back (and doesn't have to play a lot).

Posey's hustle is great. He has some decent skills. And I would like to keep him on the team.....BUT at an adequete price, nothing outrageous!

Having players such as Hawkins and T-Mo on the team gives this team a lot of leeway here. No reason to OVER spend for Posey. We already have enough cap killer back ups in Taylor, Cato, Rice and Norris on the roster. No need to shovel a bunch of money towards another "ROLE" player.

well, you're right about the athletic ability part. hawk's not as athletic as posey, but he's no stiff, either. also i don't think hawk's shot is as bad as you do. it's inconsistent, but then again, posey's has been too his entire career.

if hawk had the size of j-po, he'd be an outstanding rotation player. as is, though, he's probably a very, very good 9th man off the bench.

i hope we keep them both...

It's sad that no- talent scrubs like Moochie, Cato, and Mo Taylor are taking up so much cap room, and they can't even play 40 minutes a game without seriously screwing us up one way or another. Posey is no great shooter, but he is a guy who can give us a lot on both ends of the court and won't be overmatched on a consistent basis.

I like Posey but that one game saving lane violation call by the ref I'll never forget, only because Posey fouled and almost cost us the game, and I've complained about his jumper as well, but lately I've been comfortable with him shooting beyond the arc, ever since that run where he was draining threes like nobodies business. The guy hustles all the time creating steals, blocks, etc, and I like the little moves he takes when he brings his inside game posting up. He grabs boards, and he seems to be working on his jumper, and it's slowly becoming more consistent. He reminds me a lot of Doug Christie with his defense, and offensive ability, which definitely won't carry a team, but is adequate enough to be a threat when left open.

i always saw posey as basically a poor man's pippen.
minus some ballhandling ability and ALL of the azzhole persona.

would love to resign him too. love his hustle and his potential. but wouldn't that mean boki won't be able to play? :(
