    I hate the Lakers.
    I HATE the Lakers.
    I HATE the LAKERS.
    I HATE THE LAKERS.
    I HATE THE SCUMMY-A$$ FREAKIN' LAKER-FAKERS!!!

There, I feel much better now. [IMG]

Now that Snotty Scottie has been sent fishing, I really REALLY hope the Pacers will find some way to upset the Fakers. Portland proved they are vulnerable. I think the chances of it happening are equal to the chances of the Astros making the playoffs this year, but I really hope it will happen. Hey, Truman beat Dewey, didn't he?

    GO PACERS!!!!!!

The key to the Pacers beating the Lakers is to keep Rice off his game and keep Smits out of foul trouble against Shaq.

    GO INDIANA!!!

    That's the spirit!!

No, seriously, who I think could be a huge key is Sam Perkins. Like Sabonis he is a center who can shoot from the outside, and that will keep Shaq away from the basket. If Perkins can make a few shots, Shaq will have to guard him and leave the middle open to players like Rose, Croshere, etc. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Perkins will see a LOT of minutes this series because he offensively he is like Sabonis- he can keep Shaq away from the basket.

Harvey: How to get Lake-hate: Just listen

    By Buck Harvey
    San Antonio Express-News

LOS ANGELES — On the other coast, almost a year ago, Tim Duncan sat down for his turn at the podium in Madison Square Garden. He sat down as both a newly crowned champion and the newly crowned MVP of the Finals.

About five questions into his reign, he needed to be sitting down.

A question from the back: "What do you think about the Lakers signing Phil Jackson?"

Duncan paused, as did those in the media. Why not ask Duncan about Shaq's latest CD, too?

Duncan politely answered, and the questions quickly returned to more appropriate topics, such as, oh, anything about the Knicks and the Spurs. But that moment from June 1999 says a lot about the feeling of June 2000.

It's a feeling that comes when something purple and gold is crammed down throats. It's a feeling that image is gridlocked with reality on an L.A. freeway, and that no one can wait until Kobe's shot comes down before calling it a swish. It's a feeling called Lake-hate.

Reggie Miller had Knick-hate. The rest of the country has this.

The villains are, oddly, a seemingly decent group of guys. Shaq believes in the hype ("It's all about marketing," he says), but he has a lot to sell. A.C. Green is a prince, albeit without a princess. And as for Kobe Bryant: Is there a smoother, younger, Italian league-owning newly-engaged guard with a dad named Jellybean?

But they've come together at both the right and the wrong times. Twenty years ago they could have developed as Magic's Lakers did, winning championships and then respect. Now — in the race to build the next corporate idol — Lake-hate is born.

Look at any magazine rack and there will be pictures of Shaq and Kobe with the word "dynasty." Listen to Bob Costas and hear about "a center who deserves to be ranked with the greatest of all-time." And read how the Lakers are "Unstoppable!"

A Sports Illustrated headline yelled that last week. The magazine also declared the Lakers "took the drama out of the Western Conference finals."

Then a few things happened, such as the Lakers losing two straight and trailing in the third by 16. But a little editing will correct that story now.

Latest Lake-hate spin: Didn't those courageous Lakers put together the comeback of the ages to beat those mighty Blazers Sunday?

That's the essence of Lake-hate. No perspective. These Lakers are good, all right. But why put "Unstoppable" faith in a team swept out of the playoffs the previous two seasons? Why declare invincibility for a team that needed a fifth game to beat Sacramento? Why sing to the gods about sloppy talent that lost by 29 to Phoenix?

Why ever use the words "dynasty" and "Rick Fox" in the same sentence, and why should a national columnist even need to write what he did last week? Then, he urged caution before comparing these Lakers to Michael Jordan's Bulls.

It's not just the usual large-market saturation. It's an ad-driven, dot-com, Nike-inspired mania in pursuit of another Jordan. They can't let players define themselves anymore. That is done before the tip.

There used to be a word for huge centers who had won at every level except college and the pros. Potential. And there used to be a position more rational than the one Costas took as the Portland-L.A. series began.

"Everyone has been waiting for this one," he said then in dramatic tones, "since opening night."

NBC wouldn't let the defending champs get in the way of a good plot, just as someone in the media wouldn't let Duncan have his moment a year ago. The Spurs' championship was already 15 minutes old then, but it was already time to start barking about the hype to come.

It will continue tonight when Shaq runs into a limping Dutchman. The Lakers will win the title and, knowing them, they might take seven games, as well as a humiliating 20-point thumping in Indy.

And when it happens, Lake-hate will go to another slick, insidious, sneaker-selling level. Is Kobe already better than Jordan? Could Shaq be better than both? Should everyone else in the league resign themselves to second place until 2015?

The questions line up early, just as they did a year ago.

Yep, he also like Sabonis in that he's old & crusty, with a sagging FG percentage. Baby Huey will eat him for lunch...

Whether you admit it or not, Sabonis did an excellent job offensively and defensively on Shaq. As good as I've ever seen anyone do outside of Dream a few years ago and of course Mourning.

Me too, I hate the Lakers. The way the media portrays Shaq as the most dominant center ever makes my blood boil. Shaq was completely owned by Hakeem and his stats will never come close to what The Dream has accomplished. That is why my favorite Rocket game this season was the super bowl sunday beat down of the Lakers. With the Catomic bomb dropped on Shaq , Stevie shinning on national tv, Cuttino bringing forth the Rudy T. quote "Kapaya" it was truly amazing. [IMG]

Indiana doesn't have much of a chance. I hate to say it, but they don't.

Reggie didn't show up, and he has to put up huge numbers for Indiana to even remain competitive.

I think this is the worst NBA finals ever....besides 1986 when we lost to the Celtics.

perkins can't be as effective as sabonis. he's not as big for one thing, and he doesn't have scottie pippen and rasheed wallace coming in for the triple team. smits is too slow. only way pacers can limit shaq is too come with a hard double with davis with a man rotating off harper to keep green from cutting to the hoop.
