OK, all of my other gazillion computer issues aside, I have two that are really bothering me.

One is my power suppy makes this horrible sound when I first turn it on. It makes this "wrenching" sound for about a minute and then completely goes away. Obviously I should probably get a new one, but have no idea what to get.

The other one might have something to do with the power supply. Every once in awhile my hard drive will make a "ping" type sound or skip because everything freezes for a few seconds. It just happened a few minutes ago, so I rebooted, disallowed the load up of the Services and Controller app in Zone Alarm, because right before rebooting I saw(in Zone Alarm) it had server rights. Now I'm not freezing up, but am still worried about the hard drive, which is very new. I had the sound happen in a previous HD, but bought this one because I needed a bigger and newer one.

Anyway, enough rant. Any suggestions other than throwing this thing off my third floor balcony??

Does your hard drive need to be defragmented?

Who made your computer? They should be able to tell you what kind of power supply is in it and what kind to get.

It may need to be defragmented, so I'll go ahead and do that.

It is a custom built computer that I've upgraded throughout the years. I'd like to get a new and bigger case(preferably a black one) and new power supply. Does anyone know where I could get these?

Pimp, don't go replacing everything at the same time. Take care of the power supply and defrag your drive and then if it is still causing problems, then go with a new HD.
Since you want a new case anyway, get a new one and transfer everything over. that will take care of the new power supply. If you dont feel comfortable doin that, get a knowledgable friend to help. I would offer my services, but if I recall correctly, you are in Austin, no?

Nomar, how did you screw yours up installing ram? Did you break something or did it nowt boot after you installed the new ram? possibly the ram was bad or you didn't get it all the way in...no need to buy a new machine if its something simple...if you do...I'll gladly take the old one of your hands....:D
