I hope we get the Timberwolves Ming Vs Rasho works well for us Francis Vs Troy Hudson Houston will probably need to be a 5-6 seed for that to happen
Hmmm, I would never die for someone I hate. I'd probably quit being a Rockets fan if Phil comes in with his "genius" to coach another greatest player tandem (Ming, Francis) to a championship.
we should hire a defense coach and passing coach. We have Larry Smith teaching Francis how to rebound, but we don't have any defense coaches to teach anybody on our team how to play defense. I think Griffin is our only defender.
Calvin Murphy wouldn't be a head coaching type. To be a head coash you need to be a good manager. I doubt that Murph is a good manager. He would be a good assistant coach b/c of his teaching ability and his knowledge of the game. But then again, can Murph be submissive enough to be an assistant?
I think we'd need at least a 1 or 2 seed to play the Timberwolves in the playoffs.. I don't really see them finishing in the top 4 of the Western Conference..
if jeff van guny would accept an assistant coaching role for us, somewhere along the lines of "defencive coordinator", would anyone here think its a bad move my the rocks?
I personally don't think this team, wit alot of new faces, will fully gel within a year, it will probably take 2-3 years barring injuries. A good example are the Kings ( it took them awhile 2 learn how 2 play 2gether)! So, canning Rudy T if this squad doesn't make the play-off this year is NOT the answer! This team need some time 2 grow 2gether, given the fact that da west is strong, & alot of ROX's player are young!
ok, i know thta this wont happen but theres two things wrong in this post. 1)rudy does not make trades carrol dawson does 2)ming is not the #1 player on this team, francis is. francis is the best player on this team and in this situation, trading francis is crap and would set the franchise back. ming isnt that good...yet. why does everybody give up on francis, who has proven himself for ming so early? the standards some people set for ming are impossible.
What if This...... What if That.... If this happens... Well maybe if he did this.... Come on man the season has not even started there are NO WHAT IF'S There is only right now and right now we look better than I would say 80% of the teams in the NBA WHAT IF....GEZZS .........
Just saw this thread, and let me first say, great question... My answer would depend entirely on how the minutes were distributed...As I addressed in another thread, I am all for letting the kids play, even if it costs us in the short run, so if we were 38-44, but the kids had been getting all thier time in, I'd be ok...If we were 38-44, and we were prioritizing the veterans again, I'd be bald.
If we were 38-44 I'd have heart trouble and shortly thereafter I'm sure Rockets management would be giving Mike Fratello a call.
Here's what everybody needs to understand about teams that lose year after year: There is no way to "keep the team together." Either you get rid of the players who tolerate losing, or the players who don't tolerate losing will leave. I'd choose the former. Rudy would have to choose whether to tolerate the tolerators, and based on Rudy's choices, Les would have to choose whether to tolerate Rudy.
NO MORE EXCUSES PLEASE!!! Did Rick Carlisle make excuses when he turn the Pistons around and won the Central Division in one year. Did Byron Scott make excuses when the Nets the year before were 26-56 and turned it around and went all the way to finals in one year. The Rockets have not made the playoffs in the last 3 years. You can bet, that Alexander expects the Rockets to make the playoffs with players coming off a injury riddle season and the 1st and 15th picks in the draft. There is no excuses!!! Some people on this board was complaining the reason why Phil is winning championships with the Lakers is because the team was already talented and they won the championship the next year. This team is talented and should make it to the playoffs. Rudy has the talent let's see what he can do with it. You all claimed Rudy is a great coach , we shall see for sure this year.
I think Jeff Van gundy or Pat Riley are the perfect coahes for this team. Why? Because scoring comes so easily and naturally with our team, that it doesn't really need to be coached. But with those 2 guys, emphasis would be on hard work and defense. If you dont' work hard, and try your best to play D, your out. That is PERFECT for our young team, who can run around like hell in Riley's system. Seriously, if we hire any of them next season, I see Western Conference Finals the following season, and Championship the season after that.
I'm sorry, but I can't get the picture of Van Gundersnoodle being dragged around the court clinging to that player's leg. Who did he have a grip on? You have to give him credit for trying to stop the mayhem, but he looked funny as hell. (he would make an excellent assistant coach, though) Personally, I wouldn't want Riley anywhere close to coaching our team. Let him dig himself out of Miami. He's had his Rocket career already.
Originally Quoted by Almu That being said, we are lucky the Rockets are in H-Town. Not that many rabid fans...except around this BBS. What part of H-town have you been to, it must be the most dismal side of all if this is true. I've lived all over Houston, mostly on the North Side and all I've ever seen in Houston are die hard Rocket Fans. You know the fans that will cut you if you say something bad about there team , seriously though.
I just had to weigh into this .... 1. RT will never play for any other NBA team ever. Now that that is settled go to #2 ... 2. If we struggle from a "coaches standpoint" this year (not injuries or other uncontrollable spects), he may (volunteer to) be bumped to head office and even that may be considered a drastic move. 3. Keep in mind that we do not have Xs and Os problems in preparation. We do/or that is we have had, a problem with a head coach's court decisions in the past. RT used to be very conservative and IMHO was less so last year. But he does need to get a bit more interesting in his court generalship during game time. Methinks he will be far more liberal this year than last, and is already much more of a gambler than he was in 2001 and 2000. 4. A bust ass floor screamer with good game sense ... PJ Carlissimo for instance ... would do wonders for this team in about half of our scheduled games this year. 5. My prediction: If the team shows major letdown early, or ends the season with a poor overall court showing ... RT keeps his job as head coach, Jim and the boys keep their spots, but game day coaching is handed to a fire and brimstone thumper ... a la PJ,Knight/Tark/etc... .
Thanks, OP, for the info. I'm always amazed when everyone wants to run a successful coach out of town, when the replacement will no doubt be a downgrade. Take Larry Dierker, for example. . . . I think Rudy T has earned a spot as coach next year, even if this young team does not make the playoffs in a very strong Western Conference this year.
