A few weeks ago, I was that the Poteet Strawberry Festival, and we saw a clinical hypnotist doing a show. One of our friends wanted to volunteer from the audience, but he wasn't picked. One of the more interesting claims he made was that after the hypnosis, people tend to sleep better and have far more energy for a few weeks. I was curious is anyone had any experience being hypnotized, and if they experienced any of that. If you have (or someone you know has) been hypnotized, I'm curious:

    1. What type of hypnotist / environment - closed, open, clinical, entertainment, etc.

    2. Did you remember what you did while hypnotized? Were you aware at the time?

    3. Did it have any long-lasting effects?

And no, I'm not considering it. We were just curious as to the claims, and disappointed that our friend wasn't picked so we could see what happened.

I went to a hypnotist once. I slept better but keep waking up with pain in my rectum.

I started doing some self-hypnosis for about 20-30 minutes before going to sleep recently. Basically, I just relax my entire body and then intentionally slow down my thoughts utnil there is just one or two things that I repeat to myself (in my head).

I realize I have a small sample size of about 30 days, but I can definitely say I have been sleeping less, yet feeling much fresher during the days, and I feel as though my memory has improved.

I'm not going to make the claim that this is all (or even in part) due to "self-hypnosis," but I see no reason to stop. It could be the same benefits one would get from meditation. There are certainly studies in the cognitive science literature linking meditation with memory improvement.

I think it works only if you want it to work. The trick is relaxation and concentration.
