So a few of my friends stay over last Friday to weather the storm out together. One of them parks in the 2nd floor of the Dillards parking lot next to the Galleria to stay safe from the storm around 5:30 pm. There are 8 other cars already parked. Fast-forward to Saturday. 10AM The Car is NOT THERE. The entire lot has been towed, presumably within the last 15 hrs. My buddy is freaking out and calls HPD - ends up that the car is 30 min away in west houston. We drive all the way out there with still gusting winds to get his car. When we get to the lot they deflect blame on to the towing company, but give us the time that it got towed - 10:30 PM Freakin 10:30 PM on the night of the hurricane.... absolute low-lifes. Charged my buddy $202 for the night. Dragged his car through the hurricane (along with about 7 other people just to get his paycheck) that he parked in simply to run away from. We got the towing company's name and the lot's name. I swear there should be something we can do...
That's pretty messed up. Unfortunately, I don't have any advice on what you can do unless you can double check with someone else that would know what towing companies can legally and not legally do.
Your friend should have asked security if it was ok to leave your car there during the storm. Tow truck drivers will find any excuse to tow your car.
Tow truck drivers are pretty much the biggest a-holes around. I got my car towed a couple weeks ago from a street that I've parked on at least 20 times before. Not only did I have to pay $200 for the tow, they screwed up my electrical system which in the end cost me another $250. A-holes.
This. Hate to say it, but the tow truck driver was just doing his job. Sure it was the night of a hurricane, but still doesn't change the signs. With that said, tow truck drivers are nothing but vultures and will look for any reason to tow so they can get paid.
