My brother-in-law in Orlando is worried all that debris will become projectiles along with the newly created debris. He just fixed the roof, and his neighbor has spent over $20K since Charlie. He's staying because of the store, but the rest of the family is leaving. My other brother-in-law is in Fort Pierce (North of West Palm). He is heading north, but doesn't want to go too far because he wants to get back before the looting starts - you know, first in line to get the good stuff. By the way - I heard you on the radio last week (?) in Chattanooga. I was going to call in to give a shout out to "Another Brother". I'm not sure what the dj thought of your Donkey Kong joke (I'd mispronounce it, but that might move this thread into the DD )
I'm worried right now. My two best friends are in Florida. One living in West Palm Beach, the other one on vacation somewhere between Orlando and Miami Beach. They'd have been better off staying in the UK with me. No hurricanes here.
That's where my friend is working, as a flight instructor. I can't get hold of him at the moment, to see what he's doing.
My brother-in-law there was getting shutters on the office windows this morning but can't decide how far north to go. The other brother in Orlando said there isn't a piece of plywood in the city for sale. I hope you can get a hold of him before it hits. We still haven't gotten back a hold of a friend in Fort Myers from Charlie. We finally heard from the brother and sister there last week via cell phones.
Looking at the Sat loops, it sure appears that Francis has taken that turn more to the NW. If that is so, she may just graze Florida near Jacksonville.....or not hit the state at all.
Man, you posted EXACTLY what I was about to. You can definitely see that wobble to the NW pretty clearly. It will be interesting to see the next NHC update.
Caught a little of the Weather Channel update. They still think it is going to bump north, slow down and turn back west towards Florida. We'll see.
Sure enough.....they even have it going across the Gulf a bit. Sorry Florida. Batten down the hatches and take care.
The only good thhing is that they don't expect it to still be a hurricane if/when it enters the Gulf and it doesn't appear it will be over water long enough to re-intensify.
Miami - Florida State game is now going to be on the 10th of September. Many other sporting events cancelled or postponed. As much as I would love to move to Florida, this is the ONLY reason why I say probably not.
First I was afraid I was petrified Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side But I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong I grew strong I learned how to carry on and so you're back from outer space I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face I should have changed my stupid lock I should have made you leave your key If I had known for just one second you'd be back to bother me Go on now go walk out the door just turn around now 'cause you're not welcome anymore weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye you think I'd crumble you think I'd lay down and die Oh no, not I I will survive as long as i know how to love I know I will stay alive I've got all my life to live I've got all my love to give and I'll survive I will survive Man, the parties here tonight (in the dorm of course since everything is shut down and boarded up) are fantastic. So are the football games tonight (F*CK FRAN!). I went to Publix earlier today and they were letting people in 5 at a time; they completely sold out of peanut butter, bread, ice, and water. But they had everything else! YES!!! Since the upper floors in my dorm have to evacuate to lower levels, some nice females will be sleepin' with me tonight and tomorrow. Thank you Frances! (for now) Yeah, the football game postponement was pretty smart; Friday Night College Football? I think it's worse than originally scheduled. Seriously, it's going to be nuts here tomorrow; I'll take pics if I have a chance.
The story of the 1900 hurricane is fascinating and horrible. Your grandmother's stories must have really hit home to you how dangerous the strms can be. Thanks for sharing.
