I'm still trying to figure out how this is the chief's fault, especially given that he's been on the job for like six months.

Then who should be held responsible for this PR?

What has it been, a few weeks since HPD beat up the teen in handcuffs?

Well, if we are going to assume that someone should be fired for this, which I don't necessarily agree with, how about we minimally limit our search for a scapegoat to someone who actually has ever had a conversation with the officers in question.

I get confused what people are upset with the police about. First they are arresting too many people, then they are not arresting enough. It sounds like they made a judgment call about whether the guy was going to flee the country. It also sounds like there was some logic that backs up the position they took.

I mean, what does this have to do at all with what any other officers did in beating up kids? It sounds like you kind of just have a chip on your shoulder. Was a cop rude to you once or something? I mean, specifically, what did the chief do that was so horribly negligent and allowed this to happen?

That's what I was gonna say. It sucks that this happened, but the police chief is hardly to blame, he just took over the position

Both events are bad PR. The Chief is responsible for the actions of his officers, good and bad.

Excuse me for having sympathy for families destroyed by a drunk driver. I guess I hate the police cause I'm upset

Ultimately this is on the officers on the scene. People have been held for less. IIRC a poster on this board was thrown in jail for DUI while this loser walked after causing a major accident, and apparently there were immigration issues. Unbelievable.

I'm out. I forgot this board is full of Annise Parker apologists. No responsibility...excuses.

So now this is Annise Parker's fault? Hell, why stop there. It's all Obama's fault!!!! He should resign the Presidency or be impeached immediately!!!!!

I certainly don't believe the Chief deserves to be fired over this, but whoever held the responsibility for setting this chump free should be looking for another job. Wasn't he released that morning? The same day as the accident? Incredible.
