Per Forchette 49: "The only 2 problems with JH are is contract and the fact that he is now that veteren, savvy backup PF at this point in his career. Let's be honest, JH can still ball, hit the open jumpshot with ease, hit his free throws, and run the court, we were all very happy to get JH as basically a throw-in in the T-Mac trade. Basically a 14/7 guy, at the time, for free... If he had suited up against Dallas in the playoffs, we would have advanced for sure (btw, Mike James knocked him out for the season, along with the heart virus, in Golden State that year). Now as we look to turn the corner with a bit of youth and athleticism, JH becomes this goat for us and I don't believe thats very fair on our parts. With that being said, I still don't think that giving him up for the Lakers "spare parts" or "projects" or "expiring contracts" is a very good idea. Now, if we should land Odom or Bonzi because of him in a 3-way deal or whatever, then I'll be all for it. But, since that's basically a pipedream, we may have to (should) hold on to him at least til the All-Star Break IMO." This is a well reasoned post. Howard is not my "goat" -he is a 7 mil per season player for 3 years playing mediocre- backup level ball on a team without depth. I would argue he is the weakest power forward in the Western conference-and this is our weakest spot. His poor defense and few rebounds create more work for an over - extended Yao Ming. I am not dogging him- we cannot get rid of that contract and might as well just get over it. No one will want him. We are stuck with him. I will not celebrate that.
Funny you mention Odom. The actual rumor they are spreading is on real gm and says that Howard, Novak, Sura to the Lakers for Lamar Odom and a 2008 2nd rounder. They do say it will be announced tonight and Laker posters are ready to strangle Kupchak if he does it. Again take it for what it is worth and don't shoot the messenger
No way we trade Novak....my mancrush will not accept it...especially for an underacheiver like Odom. DD
Don't tease us like that! Odom showed he's got another gear in the playoffs... Wetdream.... Yao Odom TMac Battier fill in the blank with any guard.
The Odom rumor was from like a week ago and it got locked fast. There now actually a rumor on the Lakers board Just to let you guys know, some guy on the Club Lakers forum said that he heard on AM 570, that this trade is supposed to be going down today. Chris Mihm, Brian Cook, Aaron McKie for Juwan Howard, Luther Head, 2008 second round pick We'll see. The guy only has 6 posts, but I respect other peoples credibility. Probably BS but it's a boring day.
Rather than just making a blanket statement like that can you back that up with some statistics? He is 12/7 in just 32 minutes with an EFF of over 12.5 and shoots 46%. Is it lack of shot blocking ability you are measuring? I doubt that constitutes one of the worst - or what that just emotion talking? Back up what you say - you might even convince me.
I have a hard time believing it. Having said that...it does satisfy some things that JVG has said he wants. Brian Cook is not only young with some size but he can shoot the long ball with some fairly good accuracy. McKie looks more like something tossed in to make the saleries match. Maybe he has something left in the tank maybe not. Deke is getting old....old....old. I have always liked Chris Mihm...as a back up. I think he would be a very good back up that can play Center or Power Forward. Oh and this trade does work on RealGM. From a Rockets stand point I would seriously consider this trade. I am not sure if I would pull the trigger though.
When You look at the Lakers lineup in the playoffs against the Suns and many games during the season (I live in LA so I get to watch them a lot), one of their main lineups was Brown, Odom, Walton, Kobe, Cook. Kobe was primary ballhandler and Luke was the secondary b/c of his passing skills. The guy can play. Don't know what the WTF was all about. Just saying that if I had a choice b/t him and Chris "Garbage" Mihm, I would take Walton even if I was brain dead.
i dont think people realize Mihm can't play the 4. That is why he has been playing better as of late is because they have left him in the post. He would be a strictly backup center on this team. That being said if this trade were going through it would probably behove us to make it a 3way trade and send Mihm to a team looking for help in the post for a guard or a more traditional 4.(I'd like to ship him to Toronto for Morris Peterson who could start for us at the 2 and gives us another defensive stopper) Cook and Hayes would be our only 4's with Battier giving some platoon minutes. Deke would still be the only person behind Yao. Houston Trades: Juwon Howard Luther Head 2nd round pick 2007 rights to Lior Eliyahu and Malick Badiane Houston Recieves: Brian Cook Morris Peterson Aaron Mckie Lakers Trade: Brain Cook Aaron Mckie Chris Mihm Lakers recieve: Juwon Howard Luther Head 2nd round pick Toronto Trades: Morris Peterson Toronto Receieves: Chris Mihm rights to Lior Eliyahu and Malick Badiane I doubt i see this trade happening though. Maybe if our pick was a 1st rounder the lakers might be more inclined. Not entirely sure about Peterson in Toronto they seem to be trying to get Younger and Rasho isn't better than Mihm.
That thread is locked and he just happens to be the only person to have heard it and 570am hasn't mentioned it in any of their updates. http://www.570klac.com/pages/streaming.html
Hey there, yoohoo, me again IM CALLING THIS AGAIN HOT GARBAGE. Please for the sake of your own credibility stay off of clublakers and lakersground Noone on that station breaks Lakers news in that manner by the time you hear about it on ESPN I listen to them every single day at work and I know, this thread needs to be locked. The Rockets are not getting injured and surgery riddled Lakers trash for Luther and Juwan. PLEASE STOP THIS!
bottomline, howard's on the decline... he's a bench material playing in the starting lineup. That tells you how "deep" our 4 spot is....
If Mihm and Cook recover from their surgeries, I say do the trade. If there's some serious problem, then don't. Aaron Mckie has nothing left. If the Odom trade were true it could rival the T-Mac trade in terms of great trades the Rockets have made. But it won't.
