I guess it is always dope to stay way ahead of the field. Patent the hell out of dat similar product, the more patents the better, and market the hell out of it. Concur. If you want a small slice of the cake, you'd have to know the inventor/the major guys in order for him/them to cut you in on the deal.
Find out what cleaning company they use, get hired to clean, infiltrate the business, find the guy who knows everything, undermine him with his own company at night, when he's miffed, steal him with better pay, build your own company with the talent, take all the profits because you were second to market, and brush the money off your new Bugatti.
Since you don't own it. . . . reselling seems like the way to go I am curious - are they making money off it? Are you repurposing it? Why do you think you can monetize it and they cannot? Rocket River
Yes, they are making money. I never suggested they can't monetize, I was simply seeking ideas for how to ride the wave with them. Here is the product if anyone is curious: https://www.amazon.com/popsockets I just noticed these for the first time yesterday when I saw it on my cousin's phone. Then I was watching the Astros game and a lady in the crowd had it. Did a little research and apparently these things are exploding in youth culture. I feel like these are in that golden phase where the youth know all about it but the mainstream media hasn't beat it to death yet (ala fidget spinners). According to some people I talked to 'PopSocket' has already cornered the market for these things and imitations are too late to catch on (unless a big company like apple etc makes one). I feel like, however trivial, these things have actual utility and are placed in an infinite market area. If they truly catch on it could be a regular repurchase item for years. They could (and have already started) pulling major licensing deals. Even if they don't catch on long term, they seem like a perfect cheap/novel holiday gift and will almost certainly sell through the roof this holiday season. Any ideas?
You are already late to the game. My stepmom's store got a cease and desist letter for selling a product that was apparently a Chinese knock off. You can buy them from China for pennies.
Check Alibaba Dot Com. See if you can import/buy them for a substantial discount http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?fsb=y&IndexArea=product_en&CatId=&SearchText=popsockets A Quick search shows you can get them for about 30-50 cents With a 15$ cost that is quite a upcharge. The next question is reaching your customers You might have to undercut them . . . say sell them at 10$ Rocket River
