I'd argue that had we kept Francis, Cat, Cato, we'd be contending NOW. Therefore, we should be contending NOW with the players we have.
I don't think we'll ever be contenders, unless we manage to really stink and get lucky in the draft. Looking forward to the day someone looks this message up after we win a championship in order to flame me.

I think its important to at least make the playoffs again this year. If not, this season is a bit of a setback (although not much depending on what the rest of the West does) I think next year, we need to make a run at the WC semis or finals. We should be entering title contender status in 2-3 years. Both Yao and T-Mac will be in their primes by then and JVG/CD will have had time to tweak the team to their liking. Im patient.
honestly. . looking at years in the league more than age. . . T-mac *is in* his prime now how long will it last . .. i think we have about a 5~7 yr window with Yao and Tmac . . . health dependent AT LEAST I dont want to waste years 1-4 on the wrong system Rocket River
four years, as long as Yao resigns AND the bad contracts keep coming off the books and are replaced by solid players who earn their money.
Depends upon what one means by "contenders." With a championship caliber head coach, T-Mac, Yao, and a decent supporting cast should be able to get 52 wins, and go deep into the second round this season. Western Conference finals and beyond next season and for several years afterward.
