Mine is up to 270, but the LDL is around 180. Not sure if that includes Triglycerides. The only way to get an accurate reading is to fast before getting it taken. If you have high cholesterol, do you rely on statins like Lipitor and Crestor to lower it or do you take a more natural path like vitamins. High cholesterol can cause other health issues later in life. How's yours?
I have a family history of high cholesterol, but I've seemed to buck the trend. Both my grandparents died of heart attacks, due to cholesterol, and my dad takes Lipitor on a regular basis. In college my cholesterol reading came back around 200. Then through sheer excercise, and taking fiber related supplements (no meds though) I got my reading down to 140 about a year ago. I got it checked again a month ago and it was down to 130. The doctor advised me that my cholesterol level might be too low. They did some tests, and found really nothing wrong with my liver,etc.. but said I might need to cut the fiber supplements out.
What type of supplements were they? I really don't want to take the statins, but it needs to go down.
family history of high cholesterol. never really paid attention to food or anything, but i had always been active. Never really looked at my cholesterol since I was about 18. Then at 24 I got tested and I was a little high (~205). However, for the first time in my life, I had been inactive for about 6 months prior to the test.. now i'm back to my exercise and all. I try to watch what I eat a little bit just by not always eating crap, but I still don't eat particularly healthy. (I'm hoping it's more of the exercise thing in my case.) I'll get retested maybe in August and see.
125-150, before and after I went on the Atkins Diet btw. Cholesterol readings can vary dramatically depending on your few meals.
Mine's usually around 120 give or take some. Really low. I don't watch my diet all that carefully either. Just got lucky in this respect.
Last time I had mine tested, my LDL was 103. My HDL was a bit borderline, though. Guess I'll go do a push-up or something.
197 before I dropped 45 lbs My brother is younger and 75 lbs lighter than me and he is in the 230s I am lucky considering how bad I eat
Your HDL could be 200 (doubtful) and you would be ok. How old are you? Was your total cholesterol ever high?
The supplements are psyllium husk powder and flaxseed oil. They are all pretty cheap at GNC and Vitamin Shoppe. Psyllium husk is a powder, and I drink about 5-6 tablespoons of it every night. Flax seed you can get in either powder or oil form. I prefer oil, because it doesnt make my smoothie drink concoction too chalky. Flax seed oil, about two table spoons wort. I mix it with a total of 500 ml of apple juice, cranberry and orange juices. The drink doesnt taste all that good, but its good for your heath. Look it up on google, alot of peope take it for various reasons.
I dropped from 270 to 200 via moderate changes in diet and quite a bit more exercise. I'd bet that it's lowered more the past couple of months. I have no desire to take cholesterol medication at 31.
You know, I don't remember the exact numbers other than the fact that my doc said everything else including triglycerides were fine and that the LDL was 103. The HDL was a bit too low... I think upper 30's or lower 40's, but don't quote me on that. Even when I was at my worst, my total cholesterol was around 190, I think. I'm 35. Something else you need to look at is the cholesterol to HDL ratio.
Mine was at 250 at my last physical, about a year and a half ago. I've modified my diet since then, lost about 10 pounds....need to have the cholesterol re-checked.
