How Did This F*cking Happen! "Scary Movie 3" Tops Box Office and Smashes a Couple of Records LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "Scary Movie 3," the latest entry in the hit horror spoof franchise, opened atop the North American weekend box office with a record haul both for an October release and for its distributor, Miramax Films, according to studio estimates issued on Sunday. The ensemble comedy earned $49.7 million for the Friday-to-Sunday period, smashing the October record set last year when "Red Dragon" opened at No. 1 with $36.5 million. The previous company record for Miramax, which is owned by Walt Disney Co., was the $42.4 million bow for the first "Scary Movie" in 2000. It was released by Time Warner's Warner Bros. Pictures unit. I went and saw this movie Friday night when it came out and it was so horrible it put my ass to sleep watching it. It had 3 funny parts...maybe! I hope they are through with this franchise because this one really pissed me off!
They're not thru... there was already going to be a Scary Movie 4... this big opening weekend just guaranteed it. This is the same approach American Pie 3 took.... they spent loads on the advertising, showed hillarious parts in the previews, and got several people interested in the movie to go see it when it opened. Everybody who saw American Pie 3 knew it was awful... and they likely didn't see it again. Ditto with this movie... I don't think it'll even be in the top 10 next weekend. But, this shows what having a good trailer, and a good advertising campaign, can do for a shi**y movie.
You guys obviously skipped the first two Scary Movies if you showed up to this one thinking it would be something you would like. Scary Movie 3 was five million times better than the second one and pretty close up there with the first one. PLEASE don't tell me you actually expected this movie to have a good storyline or have mature comedy. Get over it. And, BTW, I hope you were joking when you said this movie wouldn't be in the top 10 next weekend....The theater where I went to see it was rolling pretty much the whole movie.
Come on, how can you be surprised? People actually watch Survivor and Joe Billionaire and all that reality TV b.s....why wouldn't they file in like lemmings to see a crappy third installment?
man...I read about it in the Chronicle, they said how much it sucks. My friends went and saw it friday night, I didn't want to waste my money on it. They said it sucked. I didn't like the 2nd one at all, so I figured why would i waste my money on the repetitive jokes?
I'm not surprised it opened well. I went to the movie on Friday night expecting it to suck pretty damn badly. Unfortunately, the movie didn't even meet my lofty expectations. I was ready to walk out after about 20 minutes. But since it's part of an installment, people will naturally go see it. And I did read somewhere that Scary Movie 4 was already in filming (long before the release of this movie) and will be released sometime next Fall.
I disagree, 3 was worse than 2 and 2 was worse than 1 but to each their own. Oh yeah Scary Move 4 is in production but it is going to spoof movies like Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Hulk. Here are a couple sites that discuss it: http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?id=1808489310&d=hv&cf=info http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0362120/ http://entertainment.msn.com/movies/movie.aspx?m=545521
i was going to go watch Texas Chainsaw..... but my girl wasnt 17, and they were still carding at the door(its been a freaking week since its released get over it) so i had to go to scarie movie 3 which surprisingly was rated PG13... i have to say it was a pretty ****ty movie, with only a few decent jokes.
I actually think the movie is funny. I'm certainly not a lemming. I guess I'm not in the "I don't like popular movies because I am so cool and different" crowd. I either like the movie or not. Could careless how popular it is.
overall it was a pretty good movie. laughed to the point of tears in several parts... especially when the blond chick was looking at the pictures at the wake and the guy with the squiggly face in the picture really did have a squiggly face in person.... well... nevermind. "i see you kneeling on schit."
exactly. i always love comments like the lemmings one. i haven't seen this movie but thought it looked funny in the trailers (haven't seen either of the other 2) and definitely wanna see it. i love the naked gun series and if it's directed by that guy and has leslie nielsen in it, it can't be all bad.
The movie was stupid and your supposed to expect it to be stupid, theres not gonna be a moral to the story or anything like that, but it was hilarious. Stupid comedy is funny, nothing more nothing less. Just enjoy it, I know I did.
