I agree that all life should be respected, but ... life != life human > animal BTW, I gave you the benefit of the doubt in saying that the two stories were the same. What you really said was that the other story was "no better". If it's not the same *and* it's not better, it must be worse ...? Despite appearances, I'm really not trying to be a big, fat nit. I just find it disappointing when people seem to get all emotional about animals but fail to feel any compassion for their fellow human beings. I'm not saying that's how you feel, I'm just bringing it up as an aside.
Except that kids aren't "like" members of a family. They actually ARE members of a family. That whole shared DNA thing...
i dont' think it has anything to do with people not feeling compassion for their fellow human beings. we all want our fellow man to live well and prosper. truth is though, we're (people in general) are more concerned about things that directly affect our personal lives. someone who's had a dog as a friend for 12 years and all of a sudden has to let him go will be far more emotional about it than hearing about some other family's problems. sure, you can call it selfish or say it's not right, but that's who we are.
And I am tired of being disappointed by people, in general. Whether it is through them being dishonest or using me or others or commiting crimes against one another, etc. A dog/cat/or other type of pet never does **** like that. That is what makes them so special. I know that I am not worthy sometimes to have my dog as I barely pay him any attention from time to time. But he never gives up on me and will continue to be loyal and faithful to me. I wish I could say the same for people, but I can't. That right there is why pet owners feel such a strong bond to their animals and it is something that non-pet owners will NEVER understand.
