    Because the rural people (or 99.9% of the population) don't know how to multiply like this.

    Visual Mathematics could not hurt I guess

    I wonder WHY it works. . . I wonder who discovered this method.

    Coming from England to American in the 1st grade, my mind was blown for about a year as I tried to figure out to multiply from right to left rather than from left to right.

    My dad has engineered entire skyscrapers in New York, Boston, and Chicago using just a slide rule. Seeing his portfolios for those jobs was one of the most humbling moments of my life haha.
