That last statement brings up a good point. By "hell no", I am assuming you are saying that JVG would not start them if he had them? If you mean JVG would not start them, I agree; but that is not a positive attribute. We precisely need a 19 year old rookie like Parker to come in and run the team for the next 15 years. SA was not built on a 'win now' concept. Pops is considered a great coach, but he also has a great organization that was 'built-to-win'. IMO we are about 2 years away from #1 contender, mostly due to Yao's timetable. TMac seems to be the only one ready to go now and we have no money to buy those kinds of role players that will support Yao and get us over the top, so we build-to-win. It is possible JVG possesses the skills necessary to build-to-win, I don't know. So far, in his carreer he has not shown that capacity.
There is a difference between McDyess and Houston. McDyess is a big man, who had tremendous athleticism, but he still a big body with a nice shot. All Houston is a shooter, even if he costs us LLE, I wouldn't, his legs are more important to him than McDyess. He has not played in two seasons. When I mentioned Hill, he atleast played 60 games and he avg. about 19ppg., 6rbg and 4ast a game. Meaning he still has game left. We don't know what Houston has.
If we can get Allan Houston for cheap, I'm all for it. Another shooter that is an outside threat is always good with TMac & Yao commanding double triple team.
One of the best pure shooters in the league. I would welcome his presence on this team. He would be an definite asset. However, I am also quite drunk right now and may not be in an appropriate position to make a judgement like this, so take my words with a grain of salt.
It would be ironic to have Houston and JHo on our team. Those guys, through no fault of their own, signed two of the most paralyzing contracts in NBA history. If JVG wants him signed for the vet. minimum I'd have fewer problems than I have had with him obtaining other ex-Knickers. But he is fragile...
I am not too concerned with getting a bunch of has been, "all star" players to fill in around tmac and yao. Mailman and Gary didn't fare so well on the Fakers. For that matter Chuckey B and quitten didn't really help us all that much. I would much rather some players that can realistically contribute on a consistant basis. We need hard working players that will upgrade positions on the basis of talent. We don't need elderly talented players that will slack off from night to night. Granted, one teams trash is another team's treasure . . . but i would rather a treasure that will appreciate rather than depreciate. CD . . . if Houston wants to come here, if spree wants to come here, even if finley wants to come here . . .just smile - thank them for their interest - and let them know that the rockets are going to go in a different direction. Houston reminds me of Penny Hardaway, great player that suffered a debilatating injury who never made it back to his old form. I think the prognosis for AH to ever play 30 mins/75 games a year will be very low, his knees seem that bad, more likely to me that he tries to make a comeback next year but his knees don't hold up and he retires. He is a great shooter so it you want a great shooter that can give you 10-20 minutes off the bench for a year or two than sign him for a 1-2 mill/2year deal otherwise pass.
