Have a buddy who lives in Harlingen and he has been paying south of $2.50 for two weeks now.

He said he filled up last night for $2.31/gallon.

Why are the gas prices so much lower in the valley?

Dammit - gas hasn't gone below $3 in the Galleria yet... every station near my house is over $3.50 for premium still and over $3 for the regular stuff

That is exactly what I thought. When I can I try to avoid Citgo's because I don't like lining his or Venezuela's pockets. Especially if it is just a couple of pennies per gallon and I can wait to get gas. For those of you who don't know this man I will let you do your own research but he may be the reason people were not going to the Citgo. I am still indifferent about him because I think he will eventually be a decent world leader someday. Here is one of his more infamous quotes:

"I hereby accuse the North American empire of being the biggest menace to our planet."

A buddy in Harlingen called me last night to tell me he had just filled up at a Stripes station for $2.02/gallon. It would have been 3 cents cheaper if he had a Stripes gas card.

Not saying Chavez is a saint, but you are lining somebody's pocket and that person probably lives in the middle east. (Why are we in Iraq right now?)

Just saying, if think you are taking the high road ...then make sure you got a good map.

Otherwise just off your soap box and be a good little consumer.

Citgo is Venezuelan. But anywhere else you get your gas from, the oil is most likely coming from Mexico or Canada as we get more crude from them combined than we do the Middle East (Though Saudi Arabia is the 2nd highest importer)

Good question and it is exactly what I was wondering. No coincidence the economy and the fall of gas prices coincide however.
