Anyone else see this? I just watched it......and found it hilarious..... It is the same guys who made Shaun of the Dead, and if you have ever been in the UK, you would get a lot of the inside jokes. Flat out funny... DD
Both movies are great imo. I thought Hot Fuzz started out a lil slower. I think their names are Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (dont feel like looking it up)...They definately need to work together more.
Seriously, British comedy is one thing I do not get. The office UK sucks, both those movies sucked. The only good British movie that was funny is... Death at a Funeral Freaking hilarious movie.
I saw this when it came out in theaters and loved it! I know very little about British comedy, but I still enjoyed it. This reminds me...I still need to watch Shaun of the Dead.
Shaun of the Dead was amazing...I lived and worked in the UK for a few years....and this gets their culture and lampoons it to a T. DD
I never thought Timothy Dalton could make me laugh so hard. "I'm a slasher... of prices.. Catch me later!" Those guys have a good ensemble going. I wish the Broken Lizard guys (Super Troopers) kept it up as well as this group. I had such high hopes for Club Dread and Beerfest only to be bigtime disappointed. I can't wait to see Simon Peggs's Scotty in the new Trek film. If he's that good, maybe he'll have less time for the comedy which would be a huge shame.
Man, you need a comedy transplant. British comedy is awesome. The show "Spaced" from the turn of the 90's was also by the people who did Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. It's terrific.
I think it takes an American with a very refined sense of humor to like those British comedies. There are very dry and subtle, but some of them downright brilliant.
Simon Pegg IMO is a British version of Judd Apatow, they both love to work the same people for almost every project and both are really hot right now.. Ricky Gervais and Simon Pegg do better comedy than 99% of Americans IMO.. If you're a fan of Peggs movies, check out SPACED if you can.. There are a few episodes on YOU TUBE
Still haven't seen Shaun of the Dead (it's in my Netflix queue), but I have seen Hot Fuzz on TV and it was outstanding. It does start out a bit slow, so I could see where some people would get turned off quick and not give it a chance, thinking that they just didn't get the British style humor when in fact there really wasn't all that much humor at the outset. Any humor that has a grown man lay out an old woman with a running drop kick is aces in my book. And I can't believe you thought Beerfest was dissapointing, HayJon. I'll admit Club Dread didn't do much for me, but Beerfest had me rolling.
Shaun of the Dead is about ten times better than Hot Fuzz. I loved Shaun so much that I literally could not WAIT for Hot Fuzz to come out.. never managed to catch it in the theaters, but got it when it came out on video.. and I hate to say this, but for some reason, it is just unwatchable to me.. I can't sit through the whole thing. I mean, I got all the references and everything, but it just didn't have that magic that Shaun had. I have had it on in the background, while doing other things, so I have sort of seen it all, and know how the story turns out and all.. It's just one of those I really wanted to like but just couldn't get into it.
Loved SOTD and Hot Fuzz. Pegg and Wright are teaming up for a sci-fi movie (working title World's End) to complete their genre trilogy. http://www.cinematical.com/2008/04/03/edgar-wright-and-simon-pegg-going-to-the-worlds-end/
Shaun of the Dead was great, but Hot Fuzz is on a whole other level. Every single cut and overly exaggerated sound effect and zoom in had me in stitches.
Nick Frost has a show called Man Stroke Woman that's pretty good, it's just a bunch of really short skits. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Eng-pRT9uA&NR=1
Yea, I just watched Death at a Funeral....it was freaking hilarious. I was laughing the whole time. I like the ending of Hot Fuzz. I wasn't expecting it.
Yeah saw it in the cinema and it was good stuff. You lot should check out "Run fat boy Run." That was equally hilarious, with Thandie Newton as a bonus.
