Mike Williams goes 4th overall to Buffalo, and Quentin Jammer goes 5th to San Diego. Both will make a huge impact next year and will get very rich soon.

I'm not a Cowboys fan, but I think that Jerry Jones ripped off Kansas City. KC wasted two picks just to get Ryan Sims, who would have been available at the 8 spot anyway. Jerry still got his guy, Roy, and a 3rd and 6th rounder to boot. Roy Williams is a beast, and will dominate at SS.

The Vikings would have selected Sims at 7 if KC didn't trade with Dallas. To KC, giving up a 3rd round (seems dumb to everyone outside the KC organization) was worth it to get Sims. The 6th round in 2003 was just icing on the cake for Dallas.

So what if the Vikings take Ryan Sims at 6? Bryant McKinnie literally falls into KC's lap at #8 then. Did you watch him dominate the Husker d-line last year. I guess they were really sold on taking a DT in Sims.

btw, did you hear what Jerry Jones did?

He let the clock run out to pressure KC into making the trade. Whenever the clock runs out and a pick is not made, the following team is on the clock. The Vikings could have nixed the KC-Dallas trade by drafting Sims - worst case scenario. The Cowboys would have still gotten Roy Williams either way.

Damn this is so boring. The draft started at 11:15 AM. It's close to 4 PM now, and they are still in the first round.

Yeah, Miami had more picks in the first round.

We're still waiting for the third Longhorn.

    Still waiting....

Vasher, Redding, Simms, Williams, Johnson, Dockery, Scott, Tubbs. Continue watching.

BTW, 2 out of the first 5 ain't bad. Mack also recruited Peppers and Simms at UNC.

I do. If you didn't know, I'm a horn fan. It's good to know that Mack Brown can recruit/develop talent.

Stevie Rebel obviously doesn't like the Horns. I'm not surprised. Alot of people hate the Horns more than they like their own teams.

Mack was not coach when Peppers signed with UNC.

Mack might not have been "coach" in Feb 1998 but he did recruit Peppers and Sims to UNC during the 1997 season.

Mack attack hits top of draft

    By Brian Peterson
    NFL Insider

    NEW YORK (April 20, 2002)
-- University of Texas head coach Mack Brown was nowhere near Madison Square Garden on the first day of the 2002 NFL draft, but he certainly made his presence felt.

Four of the top six selections had strong ties to Brown.

Before he left the University of North Carolina for Texas in 1998, Brown was instrumental in recruiting defensive end Julius Peppers, who was taken second overall by the Carolina Panthers, and defensive tackle Ryan Sims (sixth, Kansas City). Tackle Mike Williams (fourth, Buffalo) and cornerback Quentin Jammer (fifth, San Diego) arrived on the Texas campus the same time as the personable coach, who helped develop their tremendous raw athletic ability.

"What makes Coach Brown so successful is the way he carries himself," Jammer said. "He's a players' coach. He gets very involved with practice. You can talk to him like a normal person. He knows his stuff and has brought in great coaches."

"I remember after my junior year when I was wavering back and forth about whether or not to enter the NFL Draft early. Coach Brown sat down with me and listened to my concerns. He offered his opinion but never made me feel uneasy. I made a great decision to stay for my senior year."

According to Williams, Brown gets the most out of his players.

"Coach Brown ought to be in politics because he is so polished and such a good communicator," Williams said. "He expected us to be the best and set the bar pretty high. If we came close to reaching the bar, then he would move it out a little farther. He'd keep doing this just to keep us striving hard."

Since 1990, Brown has 105 victories and a .728 winning percentage. But it's his ability to send players to the NFL that stands out. During the past three years, he has coached, or recruited to his school, 15 first-round draft picks, including Dolphins running back Ricky Williams, Cardinals guard Leonard Davis, and Packers defensive end Vonnie Holliday.

Next year's draft also should have a definite Brown influence. The odds-on favorite to be the top overall selection is Texas quarterback Chris Simms, son of Super Bowl XX MVP Phil Simms.

The local news stations here in Austin are reporting that Major Applewhite will sign with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent.

The Horns didn't dominate the draft. That title belongs to Miami. More like the Horns dominated the top 5 in the first round, and Mack recruited 4 out of the top 6 in the first round.

OK, we didn't dominate the draft, just the top 5. Here's some other news:

Major Applewhite, QB to New England
    Maurice Gordon, DT to Dallas
Marcus Wilkins, DE to Green Bay
    DD Lewis, MLB to Seattle
    Ahmad Brooks, S to Buffalo
    Matt Anderson, C to Pittsburgh
    Antwan Kirk Hughes ???
    Everick Rawls???

IMO, Major has no chance to make the team. He'll be 4th behind Brady, Huard, and 4th rounder, Rohan Davey.
