Only undergrads and former undergrads can be the true fans. Everyone else is a wannabe fan. Sorry those are the rules.

That's because they are the only ones to get stupid drunk and pick schools based on athletics. Honestly, grad school is all about what kind of research you like, professors/personnel and location. I'm applying to UT's grad program because I really love their inorganic research, not because of football or basketball or rowing or whatever. I will always root for the cats, but there comes a time where you grow up and grow out of these petty rivalries.

Texas has more t-shirt fans than any other program in the country.

Grad school is a waste of time. It is pretty much like the work world. If you want to get published it is about who you or your prof knows, or if you suck up the conference committee.

So I don't how its any different then picking some school based on sports. You pick a school based on how well a prof is known.

Ignoring your sophomoric comments about Rice, I will say that I'm a UT grad student in Austin, and a lot of my peers have become big fans of UT athletics, even those coming from major FBS schools (USC, Ohio St, TAMU, etc), so you definitely won't be the only one (although it might be a little different since you'll be in Houston). I'm still as anti-UT Athletics as ever (probably more so since I moved to Austin), but I'm a hater, so pay me no mind.

Undergrad should be #1, but I don't think there's anything wrong with pulling for your grad school as long as it's not against your undergrad school.

    ***real talk***
cheer for whoever you want, it's not that big of a deal

always rep your undergrad school, unless if your undergrad school sucks then by all means root for your grad school

grad school depends on a few things..sometimes you really want to be something and it's the only place you got accepted to (prime example: medical school) you went to a&m for undergrad but got accepted to uthsc-houston. Who cares? you'll be an aggie for life, and grad school it doesn't really matter.

That's exactly my situation. Had an internship in the summer at UTHSC and they made us wear that god awful diarrhea orange for a community service project. Needless to say, My maroon Aggie Tshirt was visible at all times underneath that awful shirt they made us wear.

I've never understood why people are so gung-ho-assclown-goofy when it comes to their college sports teams and rivalries and whatnot, especially once you've been out of school for a few years. Shouldn't you grow out of it?

Indeed, people tend to equate their wiener-size/self-worth with how well their adopted sports team is doing. Kind of weird and stupid.

You will get sucked in, UT athletics are like a whole different animal.

UH athletics is like going to a small school, like Texas State, people are just not that into them.
