I'm thinking about buying a home audio theatre system to go with my new 32" Sony Wega. I want to put some speakers either in my walls or just put the speaker outlets in various wall spaces and just plug into them. My house is already built so I don't have the option of pre-wiring. How tough is it to do it that way? I would need to put some outlets in an outside wall so I would have to work the cables between the insulation I suppose. Any pointers?
Do you even have access from above in those outside walls? In some homes, you'll have a header board along with the roof drop that makes it next to impossible. If you think you can get access, I'd buy some of the long thin rods for fishing the wire through. You can use fish tape, but the rods seem to work better.
Running wires can be a big pain. This depends on how much effort you are looking for. Running wires can be a big pain. I’m not really sure what you are asking or looking to spend, so I will guess. You have 2 common options; set up in-wall speakers or use typical bookshelves. If you are looking to hide the speakers in-walls may be the best option. There are several manufactures that make solid in-walls for less that 200-300 a pair. Another option is to be obvious about it and just buy regular speakers. This depends entirely upon your budget because most good speakers look like a piece of furniture. I know this is vague and likely not what you were looking for but hopefully I can help with your follow ups. I a bid audio and there are several more that regularly post on this board that will likely chime in.
try posting in www.hometheaterforum.com if you still need help. they seem to know their **** over there. good luck.
thanks... i haven't really looked at how the outside wall access is set up. you are right...it is probably too much a pain to do.
