Or a dog sensor to make them think twice, lol!

The last time my apartment complex was hit, every unit on my floor was hit. The only one that survived was me.

That same day the officers said that there had been a rash of hits in the area in more than 1 apartment complex.

People think that criminals are stupid, but a lot of break ins are highly organized.

After I was victimized twice, I started trying to figure out a way to stop them.

I'm confused...what's the difference here, what are you comparing? Having the lock on the door and not having it?

Technically, the alarm should not go off if they "bump" the door. It may not even go off if they break it. The contact on the door must be separated by the door opening or the contact falling. If either happen, then the alarm doesn go off. In other words, they could cut a hole in the door and get in. Not that they would, but just saying..

If you'd read the thread you'd know what I was talking about.

Bump is a police term which means to break in by kicking the door in. It doesn't mean to actually bump the door. Got it?

Also, I was referring to a door with ONLY an alarm and one with an alarm and a reinforced strike plate. Again, read the thread.

Motion detectors will trip. You are referring to a magnet door sensor that DO require to be broken to trip the alarm. I was not. If you point a motion sensor at your door, if they kick your door that it moves it will set off the alarm. Got it?

How long will you be on this post-Grizz loss period of yours?

I worked for a security company for two years, no need to explain to me what a "magnet door sensor" is, i know what it is and the difference between it and a motion sensor.

As for the motion sensor pointed to the door, Ive never heard of a set up aimed at detecting an attempted "bump". How much will the door move when bumped? Have you actually seen this happen and it tripped the sensor? It would seem like a waste , if the bump, or anything for that matter, is strong enough to move the door significantly, then a contact should work just fine, no need for a motion sensor. It would also be easier to install a contact on the door than point the motion sensor, since to detect the movement of a bump the sensor would have to be placed to the side of the door, not directly facing it.

The motion sensor makes sense if you want to detect the motion of the door opening and/or someone coming in, setting it up like you suggested would not guarantee it could detect failed attempts at bumping the door. Sometimes it would be enough to trigger it and sometimes it wouldn't.

So, you thought I didn't know what I was talking about, and since you did you trolled my post and started explaining magnet door sensors to me. When I explained that I actually talking about a motion detector now it is unnecessary or doesn't work the way I explained it should.

If you clicked on my mace link you'll see that a motion detector comes with that product and takes 2 screws to set up.

Also, when you add in the strike master II, it takes a crowbar to penetrate it, and yes a crowbar and banging the door is plenty enough to trip a motion sensor.

Other than that, I'm offering advice. You are free to ignore it.

    **** Comcast!

For the past 3 days I been trying to deal with their dumbasses. They have missed 4 appointments, they have lied to me numerous times, etc etc. So far I only have $80 credit plus $10 dollar reduction on my monthly bill to show for it. Tomorrow I'm cancelling and going another route.

    Thanks for the help guys.
