Ok guys, a little advice for those in the know...

I've got a quote for a new ac "air handler", which is the main unit in the attic. Replace using a new Amana 3 ton, 13 seer, new drier, new dampeners, safety cutoff for the drain, and seal return air duct.

    $2585.12 installed.

    Fair?

I recieved a similar quote for a new unit recently. I had a guy who does work for a friends business take a look at it. It ended up costing me less than $200 in labor and parts.

Don't trust the big 'service companies'. They all work on comission and make money on selling parts, so have incentive to sell parts that you don't need. They also usually have deals with speicific manufacturers so there may be a significantly cheaper unit out there than the one you were quoted.
