Isn't "holes" just a new version of "goonies" complete with kids that have goofy nicknames...

I'm a writer so I'll take a stab at this. Given the trailer, the knowledge that it is about kids, and the number of holes...

I bet the kids head out to a plot of land to bury all the books from their school library. They figure if they bury every book there will be no homework. So they set out on their mission. When they start digging all these holes to bury all these books they realize that somebody has already beaten them to it. Somebody has already buried something in the dirt. Something so spectacular they get chills. tiny hands begin the long process of revealing the object beneath the soil. As they unearth the dirt, they realize they have discovered a doorway to a lost school. A school buried a milennium ago. It is an entrance to the lost city of Atlantis. They crawl into the entrace way they have unearthed, and what they find changes the course of history.

Ummmmmm.....no. :) Actually, it is somewhat of a juvenile center for kids who get in serious trouble. Digging holes is supposed to be some sort of discipline, but it's actually also a way for the heads of the camp to attempt digging for something extremely valuable buried in the earth. Don't want to give too much away, though.

I've read the book a couple of times and it is pretty good (it is a childrens book so expect nothing more than that) The basis of the story without getting into to much is that this kid has a family history of bad luck he gets arrested and sent to a Detention camp in the middle of Texas where he has to dig a hole a day for the duration of his sentence. The rest of the story is what takes place there. The book had some decent twists and was pretty interesting.

    It's not a Disney movie?

I thought they were distributing it. I know it was originally financed by a company founded by Phillip Anschutz, but I thought Disney was the distributor.

Disney needs to stick to making animated movies. All their other crap sucks.

Of course I'm not 8 years old anymore either (most of the time).

I read holes last year. It's a great little book. I'm sure Disney will totally botch it, but it's a neat, well-written story. I enjoyed the book quite a bit, and it's an easy read -- finished it in a day.

It's my understanding that Holes was a negative pickup and already completed before Disney agreed to distribute it, so if it has been botched, it wasn't Disney who botched it, but rather Walden Media.

And included in the botchng will be the author of the book, who also wrote the screenplay. And Sachar was even present on the set and reportedly helped the actors find their characters (providing backstory, etc) and so on, something most writers don't get to do.

Clearly the producers wanted to save as much of what makes the book what it is when making the movie.

It may still have been botched, but it appears that unprecedented effort to not botch it was made.

This will be a great movie.

If you are between 8-14 years old.

But it will probably be good enough so parents won't mind sitting through is.

If I have to hear "The book is now the movie" again, I'm gonna scream. What kind of selling point is that? Sounds like something from "Coupon...The Movie"

I've looked at all the theaters in my area and none of them show this movie as out yet. Where did you see this?

Okay, I just checked the movie's official website and it appears that A Mighty Wind is only showing in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Minneanapolis, New York, Philly, San Diego, San Fran, Seattle, Washington DC and Toronto.

I guess us Houstonians will have to wait. :(
