The real world applications of their "utopian" political & economic beliefs have led to misery & murder of a scope unprecedented in modern history. I realize my thoughts on this matter probably clash with your self described "revolutionary" ideals, but it's difficult to argue that however appealing the ideology, it has been nothing but disasterous when taken out of the realm of the theoretical.

No apologies necessary...unless it makes you feel better :)

I'm half Japanese (and spent my first 17 years over there) and never took offense. Actually I thought it was funny.

You know, we all have history that we're not proud of...

Hmmm...well, lenin was not really utopian, as he came into power (and more than likely had Trotsky assasinated). But, anyway, the point is that these guys are not unique and I am not just bringing this up because your comment clashed with my "revolutionary" ideals - I am not a political revolutionary (I do not really care for Lenin & Marx politically, anyway...I do like Trotsky for his aesthetic theory, though), just a culture/educational one. :)

Just about every political ideal, economic ideal, and religious ideal has been twisted in some way to produce some kind of evil, bad thing, manipulation, etc. Why single out one kind? Stalin claimed to be a socialist like Trotsky, he wasn't. Napoleon claimed to be a Republican just like those in the Revolution, he wasn't. Hitler claimed to be all sorts of good things...the list goes on and on.

Also, on a bit of a side note, there have been plenty of positive real world applications of socialist thought. Work hours went from 18 to 8, 5 year old children can no longer be forced into labor, etc. Nothing is perfect, sure, but don't make something out to be completely evil when it, sometimes, has been needed.
