He is available. He has a great eye for talent. He has experience. He has the connections. He built the first championship team.
New York Times, August 31, 1993 http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F0CEED71139F932A0575BC0A965958260 Interesting that Tod Leiweke just replaced Patterson in Portland also.
Sounds like Leiweke goes around stalking Patterson with plans to get him fired and then taking his job.
Good call. He has really produced tangible progress with the Blazers who have a record over the last 1.5 years of 45 up and 95 down. But then there's the great collection of character guys that he stockpiled on the team since he took over 4 years ago. Maybe we could get Isiah Thomas as GM. My guess is he will be looking for a gig in a few months.
this thread deserves high praise, cause many of you newbie Rocket fans need to know that Steve Patterson is a VERY IMPORTANT FIGURE in HOUSTON SPORTS HISTORY. Patterson was formerly the senior vice president and chief development officer of the Houston Texans NFL franchise, joining Houston NFL Holdings in September 1997 to lead Bob McNair’s successful effort to acquire a National Football League franchise and Super Bowl XXXVIII for Houston. Patterson was responsible for the establishment of the team’s business, legal, media and political operations, as well as the design, finance and construction of Reliant Stadium. Prior to joining the Texans, Patterson spent over three years as president, general manager and governor of the Houston Aeros International Hockey League team. Under Patterson’s leadership the Aeros doubled the previous league record for season tickets sold and ticket revenue while setting additional marks for ticket and merchandise sales. Patterson also served as the President of and Partner in Arena Operating Company, which manages and operates Compaq Center, Houston’s home of the Rockets, Aeros and Comets among others. Patterson joined the Aeros following a nine-year stint with the NBA’s Houston Rockets during which he earned a reputation as one of the most respected administrators in the league. The chief architect of the 1993-1994 Rockets squad that captured the first World Championship in franchise history], Patterson was the club’s General Manager and Alternate Governor from 1989-1993.
Steve patterson has a heckuva resume, and some flawed history. The flawed part comes from actually working, and I am absolutely a Steve Patterson fan. That does not alter reality that he and Alexander are the proverbial water and oil. BTW - how many deals did the Blazers and Rox consummate with SP in Blazerland? Coincidence? I think n-o-t.
Shouldn't Steve Patterson- (Not his dad Ray) deserve credit for trying to work the deal to trade Hakeem Olajuwon for Rony Sikealy? Brilliant. I looked up the work "idiot" in the dictionary and found his picture beside it.
