I heard Magic wanted to offer Miller, Outlaw and some draft picks for Webber.

What a rip. Then the Kings would have, like, 8 shooting guards.

The Magic would rather not give up Mike Miller; Doc Rivers is personally tutoring him in the summer leagues and at the Goodwill Games and does not plan to let him go for anyone. Plus, they like the lineup of Miller, Hill, and McGrady in the starting lineup.

They really want to offer Outlaw and a combination of overpayed centers including DeClercq and a resigned Amaechi. Not much Sacramento would want.

I wouldn't count Orlando out just yet. If Orlando wants Webber bad enough, they might make some kind of an offer that Sacramento will accept. After all, getting Outlaw/Miller/whatever for Webber would be better than just losing Webber outright to us. I believe it was Nikestrad that pointed out the fact that Sacramento will only be under the cap by about $2 mill if they lose Webber outright. Not much money to pursue FA's with. They also don't have any trade exceptions, but I'm not sure if this means they won't receive the $4.5 mill mid-level exception or not. Can someone clarify that point with me please? If they accepted the deal, they could then trade Hedo to another team or just keep him for depth. If Orlando does a sign & trade with Toronto for Davis, then I'll start to believe that Orlando is out of the loop.

It seems that Antonio Davis is on his way to the Magic, if half the reports are true. He's saying all the right things, that's for sure, about possibly staying in Toronto; but of course he must say this, until his trade to Orlando is complete. (And Doc Rivers had to hint on TV that the Magic are still interested in making a move for Webber in case the Davis thang falls through, or, more likely, as smoke screen for what most people know is almost set in stone anyway: Toni Davis in a Magic uniform.)

Davis' wife and kids are pushing him to make the move to Florida, and that's a powerful inducement. I'll go out on a limb and say that Orlando is out of the running.

Now, what is Detroit cooking up with New York, if anything? Would Detroit take on Glen Rice to facilitate a deal for the Knicks? I say no, not when you can pay Corliss Williamson. Corliss isn't the same sort of shooter, but he played well for them, can play the 3/4, and has far less mileage on the treads than Rice.

I don't think the Bulls are looking at making a deal for the Knicks to get Webber, but I admit I haven't thought much of the possibilities. They wanted Rice a year ago as a consolation prize but Rice spent much of the past year injured, and might not be what the Bulls (yes, even the Bulls) want or need. If anyone has speculation about this, I'm interested to read it.

So it might just be down to Sacramento or Houston. The only question being: do we have to sign-and-trade? And if so, who goes? If not, who signs on as center? Nate Huffman?

The fact that LA got 22% of the vote shows what a joke that poll is.

If Webber chooses Houston, lots of people are gonna be stunned. But it's easy to stun the ignorant.

I remember when the Rockets were slapping the Magic around in the 95 Finals. I was living in Iowa City, like now (albeit not for much longer). Everyone I asked---EVERYONE---was rooting for the Magic. All they knew was SHAQ, PENNY, SHAQ, PENNY, SHAQ. Media saturation helped in this cause: you knew he would be something special, even if he wasn't quite there yet.

When Shaq commented on Webber leaving Sacramento, he of all people should have an idea about that: his Magic were on the brink of something special but got swept in the Finals. And he was off to the Lakers.

Hopefully Webber won't need the same sort of media exposure/glamour quotient for his next destination.

The Rockets just don't get the exposure, so people don't pay attention. It's like Madonna. Why did she sell so many albums? Not because she had more talent than anyone else. TV and media helped hype her up.

Of course, the Rockets have been off the national radar. No TV, no playoffs. I'm sure that'll change next year, whomever we bring in.

I'd go to this poll and vote for Houston and get us up to 14.2% or whatever, but I'll do like the Rockets are doing...lying low in the weeds, letting everyone go past without showing myself, waiting for the right moment to strike.

First, I am not as sold on C-Webb as many of you are, and second I seriously doubt that he is going to wind up here anyway. If I were a betting man, and I am - then I would put money on the S&T with NY that does not include Houston, Camby or Sprewell. More like, LJ, Rice and maybe even Othella plus a first round pick. I don't know if that works with the Cap numbers, but I think C-Webb is thinking of two colors: green and pink... [IMG] NY has more of both than anybody but LA! He also knows that in the future, the Knicks will do whatever it takes to get back to the finals!!

Couple of things to determine.... First off, it was hinted by Doc Rocket in one of his posts that the Magic have a deal worked out with "another player" that would prevent them from getting Webber. If this is the case, the other player is probably Antonio Davis. Toronto has wanted Darrell Armstrong for a while now, and Armstrong plus Outlaw could probably get the deal done.

Would Sacramento take the salary of Armstrong and Outlaw plus fillers to get a deal done? Keep in mind, if Sacto takes back 12 mil in salary which is what will be needed in that sign and trade, they will be approximately 10 mil over the cap and in a tough cap situation. A team with Armstrong, Christie, Peja, Outlaw, Divac and their bench is solid but isnt contendor status. However, the positive point is that it would enable them to unload Jason Williams and still remain respectable after losing Webber.
