High-intensity interval training Does this actually work? Because I find that I sweat a lot more if I constantly start/stop than just running 2-3 straight miles. Although I don't know if how much I sweat indicates how well of a workout im getting lol.
I lost a lot of weight when I did this. So for me, it worked. But I gained it all back after I hurt my back.
If you're not already in decent shape, forget about it. you'll never make it to the 2nd session. but it definitely works.
It really works. I was able to cut my body fat percentage to levels I hadn't seen even doing 7 mile runs at least 4 times a week. I could do the equivalent of a 7 mile run in about 30 minutes in the gym of this particular type of training. The HIIT training is excruciating, but well worth it at the end.

hiit is the only way to go imo its just way more fun than running at a medium pace for X amount of time.
If you're looking for an intense workout, I would suggest you give Crossfit a try. I've been Crossfitting for about a year now, and it has changed my life in terms of results and my view of fitness. Just another thing to consider.
i love bout 30 lb doing this n lifting, any dumbass that says it doesnt work needs to read up on some articles.
ndnguy85 seemed pretty knowledgeable on this subject when I started my thread a couple years ago. Maybe he'll respond here too. I have some more questions I would like answered.
I did HIIT this morning. 15 min on the treadmill, 30 sec intervals of 10mph/7mph. Yes it does work On a side note: The eliptical machine is for pu$$ies. Unless your knees are shot. Then it's OK.
I've been doing something like that when I go to the park by my house. I sprint as much I can for 30 second then back to speed walking for 1 1/2 minutes. I do that 10 times which is about 20 minutes. I am not a good runner so I gotta catch my breath after I sprint. I don't know if it's helping. I've been doing that maybe two times a week but I'll be doing that more when I am done with classes in May.
I've been doing crossfit for about 2.5 months now. Crossfit is definitely the way to go for HIIT. It not only helps you doing the workouts, it also ups your intensity when you are doing your own thing.
I've been doing my own version of HIIT at the hills in Buffalo Bayou on Allen Parkway for the last month. Once a week - instead of going for my boring 4 mile run for my 3 days a week cardio - i'll do 15 sets of 6 sprints up and down a grassy hill on buffalo bayou - with a 1 minute break between each set. the whole activity takes about an hour - and i am dead tired afterwards - tired like i've never felt before type of tired... i am trying to up it to 2x a week - including wednesday nights - but getting all the way out to buffalo bayou on a weeknight during rush hour is a real pain in the ass.
Proper HIIT is 30 seconds intense and 30 seconds regular. Do that for 12 minutes, instead of the 20 minute set you are currently doing. You will see better results. It is of course much more exhausting.
I tried Tabata this morning, which is taking HIIT to a whole other level. You are supposed to warm up for about 5 minutes, then comes the hard part. You sprint for 20 seconds, followed by 10 seconds jogging, rinse and repeat 7 more times, for a total of 4 minutes. When you add on a 5 minute cool down it is a total of 14 minutes. It was incredibly tough. The first minute was fine. My last 2 sprints were considerably slower than the first two sprints.
