Last week, Morey discussed High Leverage Moments in several interviews. In the 82games.com article presented on 2/5, they discussed players who were best at game winning shots. http://www.82games.com/gamewinningshots.htm Additionally, the article discussed the best "clutch players" (last five minutes of fourth quarter/overtime, with neither team ahead by more than five points) http://www.82games.com/CSORT11.HTM 07/08 http://www.82games.com/0809/CSORT11.HTM 08/09 Given our poor performance in high leverage moments and our inability to close out the last 5 minutes of games, I thought this would be some interesting information. If the Rockets attempt to make a trade, they may target some of the players on these lists to improve their ability to close out games. If this has already been posted or if this is the wrong forum, I apologize.
So basically Ron and Yao are both more "clutch" than tmac? Interesting. Thanks for the link to the article... I don't have time to read the whole thing, but I will get to it later tonight.
Yao has been great in the 4th this year..... Ron is Ron, He could shoot terrible all game, but there is not a guy I would rather have take the last shot..... I cant wait for the playoffs.
I thought the "true assist" comments Morey made in a recent interview were interesting. I mean it was no surprise, but interesting that they really look at that stuff. I mean keeping track of when a player makes a play/pass that leads to an assist, foul, open shot, etc. Morey's comment was basically, T-Mac leads the team by far in that regard even in a season that many consider a failure so far. I would guess that would be one reason why he's held in high regard by the organization.
In keeping with the point of this thread how does T-Mac perform in doling out assists in crunch time? Because from those stats it sure doesn't look like he can shoot when the game is on the line.
I didn't check the links. But going off the posts here, I guess he has been less than money in crunch time. I'd rather he have the ball than anyone else. Unless he's passing to Yao and Yao makes a QUICK move. Does that mean I accept the less-than-stellar clutchness? I suppose so. Who else would you have handle the ball? Don't say Wafer (not directed at your badgerfan, just the BBS in general). He's been great camping out on the side for a 3 while someone else creates the shot for him. He's great penetrating when someone else gets doubled and he can cut through the D. With the game on the line...I'm not *yet* confident in his play-making ability with the D focused in on him.
Yao is mediocre (definitely not great) in clutch times. Both Yao's Fg% and rebounds in clutch time are in the bottom group among the centers.
Statistically McGrady is terrible in crunch time. 0.250 shooting and -12 in the +/- column. I'll take any Rocket who's got better numbers.
Thanks, OP, for the post. It is interesting to see things that we probably already knew. Yao's efficiency goes way down; both FG% and FT%, but at least he is close to 50% in FG% TMac, Airballston and Battier are terrible (sub 40%). The PF (who happens to be super efficient whether Landry or Scola) doesn't get shots in the crunch. That's just a result of terrible ball movement and recognition....
I'd rather have Brooks handling the ball to be honest.... He can drive, finish and shoot (though that has been spotty). He also isn't bad at creating for others. TMac has been in street clothes in our only recent "clutch" wins. Most close games with TMac in have resulted in losses.
How is Brooks in these "clutch time" stats? I ask honestly, b/c I really don't recall much of him in the crunch time. Especially now since he's been in one of the nastiest shooting slumps I've seen in some time.
Quote: "Who else would you have handle the ball?" And that's the problem. Of the options that we have on this team, McGrady is probably the best option. However, as the stats suggests, that's not a very good option. This is why I suggested that IF the Rockets are going to make a trade, they may attempt to get someone off this list which will give us a better option in High Leverage Moments. It is interesting to note that Amare's stats are better than any option that we currently have on this team. I don't think we can get him, but he would probably improve our end of game / closeouts situations.
i think high leverage moment is more than that. cuz morey was saying we are not too good in that area recently, i think he is referring to us having the lead in the 4th and blowing it. OR, behind in the 4th, but come SO CLOSE, and collapsed after a brave comeback. we need to do better in those areas.
No! Morey said that we have not been good at it since Yao has been here. He did mention that we are worse this year, but it has been a problem the entire time Yao has been here.
