Taveras is still nursing a minor injury, Jimerson is hitting around .250. Thompson has upped his average into the .230 range after a horrendous start. They'll need to do something with a pitcher in order to bring up an outfielder (or send Bruntlett back down if Everett is ready to go). Hiatt hasn't done anything in the majors in his career and just hit his 300th career minor league HR. I'd bet on Thompson unless something else is in the works (of course, Another Brother might bet against me ).
Wish we could have gotten more, but with the money Hidalgo was making that wasn't going to happen... If we can use the money saved to help get someone at the deadline this trade will look better.. the straight up trade I'm not sure if it makes us that much better or worse either way.
The starting pitchers are in trouble. Jimy now has a 6th inning specialist. Our starters will only pitch to the 5th inning now, with Weather, Miceli, Lidge, and Dotel closing it out. I don't think the Astros will ever have enough middle relief with Jimy as their manager.
oh and good luck to hidalgo.. I was always pulling for him.. He has talent.. a change of team may be good for him... time to go look at david's stats.. i also heard that gerry has wanted him a while
We obviously need another dependable person out of the bullpen. Seattle is out of things, so how about using our new free money for Everyday Eddie? Just a thought.
If we don't use that freed up money for a good FA next season, I'm gonna be pissed (if we don't use that money, not because of Doggy).
I'm pretty sure some important guys are coming up for raises in the next couple of years including Oswalt, Miller and Berkman. I could be wrong though.
PEOPLE. This trade was not about upgrading. It was about getting rid of a bad contract. We got off easy by not having to swallow the entire $8 mllion difference.
The Astros have been trying to move Hidalgo for three years now. If Dave Weathers was the best they could get, it probably is. Weathers isn't flashy (few middle relievers are), but if he eats 60 innings for the Astros, this trade is almost lopsided. Hidalgo is having a *bad* year, and a lot of his production has been aided by MMP. Away from MMP, Hidalgo has been horrible (.277 OBP, .659 OPS), and he hasn't been much better against righties. Shea isn't as forgiving as MMP, so Doggie has probably seen the last of batting even .280.
I guess we have to hope that J Lane is going to produce on a daily basis. I think the stros made a good decision because Hidalgo hasn't really done squat this year. Well, most of the astros aren't doing squat right now. I wonder who is next.
