So I take my son on the mini train here and there and we always pass by the massive playground. Besides taking the mini train how do you get there and is there a place to park and walk over?

On a busy day you can get off the train there but you can't get back on because the next one will be full.

There is a 3-hour parking area across the street from the Miller Outdoor Theatre.

Take 288 South to McGregor, exit S. McGregor, make a right. Take Cambridge to the right, then take Hermann Dr. to the right.

There are also other parking lots near a) the zoo and b) the Sam Houston statue.

Yeah when i go I often park by the zoo. The train station is right there. I mean if they have this huge playground there has to be parking access to it right?

That section of the park doesn't have immediate adjacent parking access, you've got the rest of the park, the zoo, Macgregor/Med Center, and Fannin/Rice surrounding it.

Parking by the Sam Houston statue is going to be as close as you can get (about a third to half of a mile away)

I haven't been to the park in ages. It was so different in the early 1970's, when I lived two blocks away from the Miller Theatre side of it. Do they still have fireworks displays at the park on the 4th, or at New Year's? They used to. I remember laying on my back close to where they were shooting them off and watching the rockets explode. Very, very groovy.
