I recently bought an ATI All-in-Wonder video card, and have used the digital VCR to record stuff off of the TV. I want to edit out the commercials and put an hourlong show onto one CD. The VideoStudio 5 that came with the video card allows me to cut the clips, but the sound is all messed up. It's like the sound is in slow-mo and it doesn't follow the video clips at all. If anyone has any experience recording TV onto CD's, please help me out! Thanks in advance.
Which version of ATI All-In-Wonder is it, as different versions use different native compressions schemes for captures. (I.E. Is it the All-In-Wonder 128, All-In-Wonder Radeon, etc.)
goophers, It would really be hard to tell you exactly what is causing your sync problem, since there are so many variables on a Windows PC. I can tell you that the AIW cards are NOT realtime hardware encoders, they are sort of a hardware/software hybrid. Since they do depend on your CPU/chipset, make sure you have a fast processor and lots of memory. Disk subsystem speed is also important if you are capturing at high bitrates. In addition, you might try CBR (instead of the default VBR) as well as play around with the actual bitrate level a bit. Many of the consumer editing packages tend to have problems editing VBR MPEGII. This is especially true with poor source material (such as videotape) unless your have a pro deck with time base correction. I have an AIW on one of my PCs, but was very unimpressed with the quality, so I got a Dazzle II for MPEG2 captures. Capturing is more of an art than a science. There's really no one way for everyone to do it and get the same results. It's very much trial and error. I CAN however, point you to some of the resources that have proven to be VERY helpful to me. They both have forums, too, which I'm sure will be of much more help than this one on this topic....just be patient. Good luck. x34 VCD Help SVCD Forum
