I moved my cheap arse dvd player to my cpu room and then back to my living room. Now, when I play any Star Wars dvds (and only Star Wars, as far as I can tell but I haven't tried a lot) my vcr is scrambling it. It seems intentional. It works fine plugged directly into the tv, and with a different dvd through the vcr. The menu works ok but when I hit play is scrambles every ten seconds or so. Any ideas what this is about?

    thanks.

Your DVD player has a feature called Macrovision that is doing this. It is to keep you from recording the DVD to a VCR tape. VCR units used to do this also to prevent you from using two VCRs and copying tapes. Some DVD players have secret menus allowing you to turn off this "feature".

    Thanks!

Yeah I thought it might be something like this. But it was never on before. I did read online that the dvd player has a secret menu. I guess I better research more. I wonder why it started doing this all of the sudden?

And for those making jokes, shame on you. My Star Wars watching is a very serious subject.

I only run it through the vcr because it was easier to switch the video/sound that way... :(

And I don't like vcrs. It's picture is coarse and rough, and irritating and the tracking gets everywhere. Not like dvds, where everything is soft and smooth.

Okay, that was awesome in a very nerdy, new trilogy way.

Geez. Running a DVD player through a VCR to the TV. So amateur. You must be one of those people that think HDTV is a luxury or something...

Getting good sound and picture quality isn't like dusting crops, boy.
