Haha, they are young, give them a few years. However, I don't understand why I skipped either. The young are just dumb.
Oh come on- give the guy a break. High School has to be one of the most pointless exercises one must go through. My philosophy: If you are smart enough to get away with it (free of repercussion, then you won't gain much from it anyways.) I went to school for maybe 2 classes a day MAX senior year.
What on earth are you talking about? I've never heard of having to go to court because of absences from school. And this is coming from someone who missed a lot of classes in high school.
Since when are awards given just for showing up? How is that even an accomplishment? "Congratulations on the strong immune system kid." Sorry for sounding like a jerk, that's not my intention. I just think it's funny that we're so desperate to praise our kids that we'll do it for just about anything. I think children should only be rewarded for achievement in school, not just attendance.
Perhaps this is not an appropriate time to bring up the Anne Hatheway option, but I felt that this thread deserved the chance.
My kids got awards for kicking other kids asses at school..... The award was the other kids lunch money.
Step 1 - Go to online website with fake doctor's notes Step 2 - Print out and write in very poor handwriting that you are excused Step 3 - Win
Galaksy, I don't know how to answer your first question, but... doesn't it say on that letter that what you have to do? I'd say FIRST do what the letter asks, and then if you disagree, fight it to get it taken off your record, but... obey school rules first, sir and do what it says. Perhaps because I was never absent "that much" or was never tardy "enough" to deserve one of those, I didn't know those existed. I am not trying to brag, but I have never seen one. Do you mind posting a bit of what it says you did? You mentioned "absent/tardy"... do you think it's too much to be sending you a letter? I don't know if you agree with the letter or don't. Well done sir. My kids also have NEVER missed a day (ages 10 and 7)... but, uh, maybe because my wife works at the same school? Always follow the rules. Someone beat me to spelling "truancy" properly. Let's help out this kid, CF.net.
Was the letter addressed to you or your parents? I find it odd that a school would send a truancy letter to the student since it is the parents that are responsible (in a way) for a student's attendance.
I basically did the same thing he did. By halfway through my senior year, I was just mailing it in effort-wise. I lived in Colorado, so I didn't like waking up for first period because it was so damn cold during the early months of the year (shoveling snow off my car and having to walk outside 20 minutes early just to warm it up sucked). Between that and going to the Y early in the morning to catch pickup games with all the mid-20s guys before they went to work, I probably had my mom just call in and excuse me from 1st period class more times than I could count on two hands. I always turned in my homework and got As on every test, so it wasn't like they could do anything. I did the same thing in a lot of college classes too. In my accounting class I had a span between two tests (we had like 3-4 tests a semester which comprised your entire grade) where I literally did not go to class once. Well, technically I made it to one class, but it just happened to be canceled on that day. It was like a 7:30am class though. Too hard to consistently wake up for it. I just went to the tutoring session before each test - probably learned more from then than from the teacher. I think there are generally two categories: 1) You suck at school, so you skip because you don't feel it is worth your time since you probably think you will never get better at it. 2) You skip because it's easy enough for you that going to class isn't worth your time.
I agree, those teachers don't care about us, they just want to make our lives miserable by making us do work. There is simply NOTHING to be gained by going to school, studying, getting good grades and all that other crap. Just do what feels good.
