I'm sitting here in Houston trying to record tonight's preseason game to DVR and can't find it anywhere. No sign of FSSW or FSNH anywhere in my program guide. Why the **** did I move back to Houston and get DirecTV if I can't watch my Rockets? Please advise. TIA.
I guess your edit means you understand that I meant literally tonight since it's past midnight. Does anyone have any insight? I'll be in a meeting during the game and was really hoping to record it. And unfortunately I don't have time to cancel DirecTV in favor of another service before the game. But you can bet I will if they don't broadcast it. The only freaking reason I'm even paying for TV is to get the games -- apart from that I'll take network TV and blow off the rest. It makes no sense at all that someone would charge you for cable or satellite and not give you local games. But hopefully I'm wrong.
I'm on the phone with DirecTV and they're telling me that neither FSNH nor channel 639 is available in my zip code (77006) or in downtown Houston (77002). They even scrolled through their sports programming in those zip codes and told me the game wasn't being broadcast tonight. WTH??? Can people who have directv and suggested channel 639 tell me what zip code they reside in?
i have dish. there's usually an "alternate" FSSW where Houston sports are programmed. if directv is like dish, there should be an alternate close on the guide to where FSSW is.
They're telling me the game isn't on tonight. Again, if I could find out from any directv user that is getting it on 639 what their zip code is that would be super helpful. Especially if I get it before I get off this now hour long phone call.
It was listed for me last night but I didn't check to make sure that I could see the channel so it could be blocked. My zip is 77479 (Sugar Land).
Yeah.. Unfortunately, this is one of the stupid things that the Sat companies do - they don't bother to post in their guides exactly who is playing, or exactly which region any particular broadcast is for. So, you can't even safely just choose an 'alternate' channel and set it to record, because you might be getting the one for a different part of the country, and you would get no recording. You pretty much have to either be standing right in front of it when it is like that, or call on the phone and have them actually find it and start the recording once it starts. Sux. And if you don't have a helper at home when you are out of town, then even more suckage.
this doesn't happen to me on dish. for example...the astros come on a FSSW alternate...but the guide always tells me what channel they'll be on.
sort of off topic, tried to ask in the GARM but got no answer, here I ask again I have dish network for the first time this season. in order for me to watch Rockets game I have to watch it on the FSN Alternate channel since I live in Manvel, near Pearland. anyways, do they show the midnight repeats on the alternate FSN?
What Nero is talking about is if another Fox Sports channel is showing it, for instance tonight's game could be shown on Fox Sports Oklahoma, if you set your tivo to record that it wouldn't work. There is a separate channel for the Houston feed of FSN and the game is listed on it in the guide.
Now they're telling me my satellite's screwed up and I need a service call, which they said can't happen sooner than Friday. The guy that finally decided the satellite was the problem said he was going to expedite it and get someone here today because of all the trouble, but then he saw that I had purchased the protection plan insurance and because of that the expedite option wasn't available to him. In other words, I'm being punished for buying the insurance, paying for it for a year and never having used it prior. And I've got a meeting tonight I can't miss so I can't even go watch it at a bar. All this after I used up over 100 valuable cell minutes and had to argue with people telling me the channel didn't exist, wasn't available in my area, the game was blacked out unless there was a sellout (it's not even local) and that the Rockets weren't playing tonight. Oh, and they accidentally hung up on me in the middle of the call so I had to go through the whole thing twice. I know it's just the preseason but I've been waiting (like you all) since June for this and now I'm going to miss it. This freaking blows.
i feel ya pain....is this game gonna be on FSNHD? if so, im goin to my neighbors house. my brown parents havent seen the need for HD yet even tho we got a plasma tv lol....
So does 639 not show up at all for you? At this point you may as well set it to record and hope for the best.
Small comfort, to be sure, but at least someone will post a link here afterwards where you can watch it if you want. Sorry you're having such a rotten time with it. Hopefully it gets straightened out before the season starts.
The game is on my Directv guide channel 639. Just manually set up your DVR to record at 7PM on channel 639.
