I have just taken a new job in Houston, located of westhimer and post oak in the bechtel building. I am commuting from Navasota which is not bad without traffic (1 hour ) but traffic is killing me coming in and going home.

My question is what is the best time in the morning before traffic starts or is there a way to avoid the traffic of 290 by an alternate route. I have a flexible schedule so I was thinking of coming into work earlier any ideas would be appreciated.

Hempstead Rd.? That starts on 290 and Fry... it runs next to the railroad on the southwest parallel side to 290. It's pretty fast. Most people DON'T use this road because they don't know about it, but it moves well when I've been out there. People here that live there might have a different idea. :(

This Hempstead Road ends past the 610 and I-10 intersection and it becomes the Washington road that goes into town.

I'm glad we finally closed our floors off from your company's messy ****ters. :D

I work at 3040 Post Oak. If you see someone smoking out by the building in those Addidas Rockets shoes, say hi.

I'd leave Navasota around 5:00am and leave Houston no later than 4:00.

Seems like if you left at 5:30, you could get here by 7:00 without taking Hempstead.

I see people from Bechtel coming and going from that building to mine all day and it passes right by the smoking area. Wearing my Rockets button up today if you see me killing myself slowly. :)

Move into town. That commute sounds terrible.

I used to make a drive from Magnolia to that area and would go through Cypress.

If you can get past Cypress on 290 by 545am, you are golden. Then, I'd just take the Beltway down to the Westpark and into Post Oak.

Anything after 6am on 290 and you are going to be stuck in traffic.

    290 ****ing sucks.

they should have expanded it ten years ago.

they do this with every single damn freeway.

i work at bechtel (3000) building, but i live on wirt rd. so there's no traffic at all for me =P

my suggestion would be to move into town, really.. i was out in navasota this past weekend (how random) and i would hate to make that drive daily... the drive out there friday after work was absolutely brutal on 290.. thank God for my location..

I would take 105 to Plantersville, take 1774 south through Magnolia connecting w/ 249, then right at Bingle, go under 290 & I10, connect with Voss, then San Felipe to Post Oak. Badabing.

I am The King of Houston "shortcuts". But the funny thing about shortcuts is...even though you FEEL like you're getting there faster (because you're actually moving), most of the time it would be faster just to get on the freeway and deal with the traffic.
