Anyone else pre-order this. I pre-ordered mine on Saturday. It comes out on the 31st. If you are a fan of the Diablo games this may be one for you to pick up, since it was created by the developers of the Diablo series. The initial reviews are pretty good so far and the beta was supposedly a success. I am looking forward to playing it once the servers go live. I was a huge DII fan, and this looks like a futuristic version of DII.

I swear I heard about this game like 3 years ago. I didn't know it hadn't come out.

Hmm if this is made by the same people as Diablo2, then I'll definitely pick it up(if its for PC). Do Blizzard lose a lot of their developers to other companies after making a successful hit? Or are they going to develop a D3 in the future?

I'm pretty sure it's a tabletop type RPG that's been around for a while that was developed into a video game. It also spun off some comic books.

No, I mean I saw stories about the game on like G4 with full on gameplay like it was ready to go. It's like a first person shooter game, but it plays like an RPG if I remember correctly.

this is really really misleading...by no means did all of the Diablo developers, or even a large percentage, go to this new company that is doing Hellgate

it was only several individual people, not like some mass exodus. they make it sound that way, because Bill Roper just happens to be one of the people at the new company...he was the #1 head PR guy for Blizzard before, so he's really good at creating buzz and marketing. so he likes to play off that whole 'Diablo developers' angle

no, Hellgate is a completely new computer game IP

however, they are doing comics and novels for it to go along with the IP...just like how there are a bunch of Halo novels

Looks interesting, seems machine guns meet sword and magic combined.

Rumors are that D3 is in development, but nothing has been announced.

As far as HGL goes, it is definitely a hybrid type game. From what I have read, the hunter type class is best suited for FPS styled play, but the melee class is played in the 3rd person, Diablo style. I believe you can switch between views for any classes though. It is being described as a hack and slash/adventure/RPG. It will be online, but paying a subscription fee is optional. The subscription fee allows for content update, special "content" (such as seasonal quests), a "hardcore" mode like in D2, and a larger selection of weapons and armor not available to non-subscribers.

My boss and his cousin have been playing the beta for a while. My boss specifically stays in the back playing for hours, which in turn keeps him from doing his job.

I've been in the Hellgate Beta and as a huge fan of Diablo II and all things Blizzard, I was pretty damn impressed by the game. There were definitely some rough edges, particularly in the lack of story development and environment variation, but the gameplay has the crucial essence that will make it a success, the addictive quality of itemhunting that keeps Diablo II still playable today.

The hybridness of the game is a really interesting dynamic. Mechanically, Hellgate: London is all RPG. There's no reloading, there's infinite ammo, and most weapons have splash damage. Circle strafing and bunny-hopping aren't really all that useful in the game, due to many enemies having splash/homing projectiles, and melee attacks having about a 180 degree arc. Still, playing as any of the characters in first-person feels so different than the classic over the shoulder, it's enough to make you suspend belief.

Flagship Studios, who made the game, was fantastic about responding to the beta testers, and the developers seem legitimately concerned about the well being and future growth of the game.

In my opinion, based on the final beta build (which should ideally be about 2 months behind the final gold copy + a Day 0 multiplayer patch), it will be a rough first few months for Hellgate. There were a number of technical issues, including several game crippling bugs, and oftentimes the fixes FSS used created even worse bugs, or took the servers offline for the better part of a day. I personally think that EA (who's publishing, marketing and distributing the game) probably really rushed this game in order to get it out on Halloween. If this were made by Blizzard, I'd have expected it to see it about six months later to get the customary polishing that puts Blizzard games above and beyond the competition.

Still, I've got my preorder in hand, and can't wait to check my mailbox tomorrow. This game won't be a WoW killer; it's a bit too complex and "demonic" to appeal to a wide audience. It's not Diablo II either; that's Mythos, which is being distributed free of charge by FSS as well. Hellgate: London is a new taste, and one that is definitely going to age well.

I'm a huge fan of Diablo 1 and 2, but I'm pretty sure my computer would go up in smoke if I tried running Hellgate. I need a new desktop. Anyone want to donate to my fund?

Hey all you Hellgate London fans. I'm holding a Hellgate London LAN party at my coffee/ tapioca tea house in the Meyerland area. So if you are picking up a copy today and want to play along side 20 or so other Hellgate fans come on out. You'll need your own copy of the game and your laptop as space is too limited to bring desktop rigs. There is a minimal fee, two drink minimum. We'll also have live music and will be open until midnight tonight. Festivities should start around 6pm. Hope to see some of you Rockets fans out.
