http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/42413/20060930/miami_waives_mike_gansey/ Wow, how could the next JEFF HORNACEK be cut ahead of Daniel Horton and Chris Quinn?! Redick is not much better! We must draft him with our early 2nd!
Some of you who ripped the Rockets apart for not signing him first: What say you now about Gansey? Another question: Do you still subscribe to the rule that if a better team signs a player that automatically means the Rockets made a mistake by not signing him first? I know good and well none of you will reply. Eat some cheese with that whine.
My guess is he was released to pursue another opportunity, not for lack of talent. Look for him to be signed by another team after he clears waivers.
If the Heat wanted him they wouldn't have released him. If I was a betting person, I'd put my money on Gansey not being on an NBA roster this season. IMO, he is a classic example of a college player not translating to the NBA.
Its strange to me that they let him go without even a look in training camp? I guess the 1 and 1 averages in summer league did him in. Heat might have their eyes on someone bigger and better. right now I dont see that he fits any Rocket needs, only thing we still have left to fill is a big man role.
Thats a great point, I completly agree. Gansey was a great shooter who could run around screens as much as JJ did, bring the ball up the court, and pressure the other team's ball handler (notice, I said nothing about being a good defender). If anything, the guy everyone should be complaining about (not that I am) is Gerry McNamera. That guy was off the charts. Besides his run in the Big East Tourny that single handedly got 'Cuse into the Big Dance last year. A guy like that not getting drafted is unheard of. Except for the fac that he is unathletic and his game does not translate well. Thats actually a good thread in and of itself. What does it mean to have a game that translates into the NBA?? I think Gansey and McNamera would be great players in Europe. The way they pass, shoot, run the floor. They are fun to watch.
Gansey just isn't athletic enough unfortunately. The guy's bball IQ is off the charts and he's a great shooter. He played in an offense at West Virginia that translates into Euro basketball and the same goes for the zone defenses that he played with which tend to hide his lack of athleticism. It really sucks that he can't make it because guys like him are always fun to watch. Everyone at ESPN was rooting for the guy because you can't help but admire the style of basketball he played and the blue collar mentality that the whole team had. Well if someone doesn't pick him up, have a nice time in Europe.
