Quicktime 7 came out last week for Apple users only. They've got access to some HD movie trailers for some of the summer movies coming out. Windows Media Player 9 supports HD as well. These HD files are huge, of course. For a 2 and a half minute trailer from Apple, it's nearly 200 MB. Right now, the available content for WMPHD blows. Apple has the cool exclusive stuff, but PC users aren't supposed to be able to watch it. DivX also supports HD. You can watch these Apple HD exlusives with your DivX player, but it's pretty crappy and the video can be choppy. There is another way, fellow PC users.

The Elecard MPEG2 Player. It's still hasn't been fully optimized, but people with above average PCs should be ok. It's not perfect, but it should hold you over until QT7 comes out for Windows.

    <- initial reaction
If I don't have that Elecard Mpeg2 player, I can't see them? I thought MS says anyone with Windows Media Player 9 can see these.

You can right click, open with, then select WMP to open up a Quicktime 7 HD file, but it won't play very well at all. The quality doesn't look as good and the video slows down and stops at points.

Also, at the WMV HD site, they have a tester to see if your computer can handle certain things. I ran a test for T2 Extreme Edition, which is in HD and it said I was above the minimum system requirement. I don't know if it tested for the right codecs, but I do have the latest stuff from Windows. I popped in my T2 DVD and it can't play it properly.

Sounds cool, but I'll stay away from 200MB trailers.
