with ming? I mean we won 45 games when francis was healthy and i dont think we will get to 45 this year. Maybe we should just continue the francis-mobley type of game. may be itll give us w's( boston game last week).

or maybe we should get a new coach to help us improve. We had 45 wins two years ago with Francis leading the team, and now we had two high 1st round picks and have gotten no better. The coach needs to be held accountable at some point.

The Francis Mobley thing does not work against the new zone defense.

That is why the ISO crap fails....and when it does, our guards are not good enough passers or smart enough players to make it work to their advantage.

So, are we better.......not really, only time will tell.

This team, for a lack of a better word, sucks...The Rockets have regressed proabably more than any other team in the league since the beginning of the season. I have never been more disgusted with a Houston Rockets team as I have by this one (including last year). A major overhaul is needed.

One thing I have noticed lately is that teams have been trying to get Yao involved in the pick n' roll defense. Yao is getting better at it, but for a while, he wasn't showing enough to help the guards.

It would be nice to see the Rockets trap the guard with the ball just as he is about to use the pick (like teams do the Rockets). Maybe this would allow enough time for the defense to rotate to cover the guy rolling to the basket.

Has the team improved from 2 years ago?

    NO

    Basketball talent: 7-8/10
Basketball IQ: 3/10 (Yao raises it to this level)
    Toughness: 4/10
    Coaching: 3/10
Arrogance 10/10 (Yao and 1-2 other are exceptions)

With a generally healthy team, and with Yao dropping into our laps, somehow I expected much more. Team is regressing, not learning.

I am SOOOOOOOO disappointed this year :(

Whole <<< sum of the parts

This year's team is a bust. I thought they were going to do much better after a good showing in November but somehow the learning curve just flattened out.

I bet Rudy T still doesn't realize that ISO's vs any kind of zone will not work. Until he does, expect more of the same from the Rox.

Keep in mind we have been playing .333 ball for well over a month.

Of course the team's improved over the last few years.

Let's be honest, that 45 win season from 2 years ago, the Rockets feasted on the LEastern Conference for quite a bit of those wins. They couldn't beat good teams (read: Western Conference teams) consistently.

Inexperience (and a little case of the "stupids", perhaps) has accounted for at least 10 games the Rockets should have won this year. As disappointing as this may sound, you have to admit there's a silver lining there.

This team has a foundation, a talented young core, and no bad contracts really (ask the Knicks about bad contracts). Hell, Yao Ming alone improved the team considerably. Just have to learn how to utilize him properly, that's all.

I agree there a bad team and something needs to be done, but I don't think a major overhaul will work for two reason...

    1) After this season, we won't get jack for EG or CAT

    2) With all the new bodies, we'd be playing just like this year, with no chemistry and no discipline...

I feel the same way but never say it because I try and see a light at the end of the tunnel. I don't think a major overhaul is needed though. At it requires is a PG of Jason Kidd's talent, and/or a coach ready to teach at a more basic level.

Oh, and not only has the team not improved over the past few years, it has shown significant regression just over the course of this season.

    GReat observation chyke_tx.

I've notice the same thing, that Francis and the team played better when all the Iso were called upon. Even with the zone defenses today the Rocket guards are quick enough to go through them or around them most of the time.
