I think it should have a more descriptive name

If it's important to you, you know what it means.

Just sayin' I think Freedom Day or Emancipation Day should be the preferred holiday title, they both sound nicer and are more functional

But Juneteenth is cooler and is the name chosen by those that started the tradition.

you or sam should get in your time machine and change the name!

the word "juneteenth" is pretty aesthetically offensive...

You can only go back within your lifetime, unfortunately...it's just slightly past mine

Oh, or unless it was through a genetic relative during sweeps due to lightning or something

The Fourth of July agrees with you. Emancipation Day is inaccurate to the extent that it marginalizes Lincoln and his Executive Order, and I guess Texas Emancipation Day would keep it from being quasi-national. And June 19th in and of itself is a bit dull and would seem to "compete" with FOJ. Name it Freedom Day and you'll have Ultimate Warrior types b****ing about it like they do MLK.

It's a Texas thing. But also celebrated in the south. But more of a Texas thing.
