Im kind of curious and thought this would make for an interesting discussion. Say a player like Kobe who has already won three championships is now on a team that might never sniff the playoff's again. What does that say about him, his drive, his will to win? If he spends the rest of his career on a lottery team will people remember him as one of the greats or a talented player on a losing team? and how do you make that decision based on what? I've been curious because good/talented players get heaped on look SAR, EBrand, GArenas, AJamison (those Wizards were good before they got to Washington). Not to pick on Kobe how about KG? If Minny becomes the worst team in the league handcuffed by KG's huge contract what does that say about him? Its only been one year but how would you feel if they were on the worst team in the league for 5 years straight? Would people forget about them? Stop talking about them? J
KG was an MVP, all MVP are in HOF, period. Kobe had more contribution in Lakers than Pippen did in Bulls. If Pippen was arguably the best SF ever, it's hard to imagine Kobe not in HOF.
Good question...take Wade. Did he help or hurt Heat last night? Did he help or hurt himself, physically or rep last night? I believe too much weight is given 'Rings', and I believe it started with Chuckster's laments 10+ years ago. Kobe and KG are HoF track, no question. Nash needs more years like this one. Malone and Barkley are in, Horry/Elie/Kerr are not.
so if SAR stayed w/ Atlanta and kept putting up 20/10 for the rest of his career would he have been a lock for the HOF? J
an MVP is not a key to the HOF. I don't think Kobe or Garnett are locks yet. But barring injury they are both young enough and talented enough that good teams (if not championship teams) will be built around them.
Kobe's as close to lock as you can get. Duncan is a lock. Garnett is the one more in the gray territory, but his chances aren't bad at all. Nash is a lock for the Canadian Basketball HOF. Evan
whether KG gets a ring shouldn't be a reason he doesn't get into the hall. he's one of the greatest PF's to every play the game. the numbers don't lie and his heart and passion to win don't either. barkley & malone never won a championship but we all know they'll be in the hall, so why not KG? another 5+ years of this type of dominance makes him automatic.
I agree w/ you on that, but Bill Walton somehow made it. His teams did win two championships but of all the players that have made the HOF that I know anything about, he is one of the least deserving. The guy played less than half of the time during his career because he was always injured and only averaged 13.3 points. Yes, he did have an awesome college career, but that is not supposed to matter.
It's the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA hall of fame. That's why Cheryl Miller and Lute Olson are hall of famers...
Um. Yes it does. An NBA Hall of Fame doesn't exist. The current Hall of Fame in question is for basketball on all levels. That's why you have international players, college coaches, and NBA players all in the same Hall. On the basis of his stellar college career, and his MVP and Finals MVP I think he belongs in there. But in terms of whether there should be a separate NBA Hall of Fame (I think there should be, in which case Walton is a tossup), that is a different subject
here is a bit of trivia for you: there has never been an NBA MVP to not make the hall of fame. Garnett is a lock. I can't believe that anyone would even begin to question whether he will make the hall of fame. I think, if there is one player that will EVER possibly be MVP and not make the HOF, it is Steve Nash. Just take a look at his career numbers.
Totally agree. Duncan is a lock, KG is a lock. Nash is still very questionable. The Suns will need to win a championship to drastically improve his chances or he needs to win some more MVPs.
How about Middle of the Pack Guys Like. . big Shot Bob Horry hard to see him in but 6 rings. . . would be hard to deny Rocket River
Nevermind. I take it back. I just got through watching my recording of ESPN Classic's Game 1 of the 1995 NBA finals. Horry is The god of clutch shots. He just nailed one after he fumbled a pass from the Jet w/ about 16 lest on the shot clock in overtime!!!. No concience!!!! Second half of 1994 game 6 against the Knicks is next.
While Artis Gilmore, who averaged 17/10, isn't in. And that's not even counting his ABA numbers, which were 22/17 over 5 years.
You cant say someone is a lock.. If Duncan and KG retired today I dont think they would make it as their career was too short? J
