i know this is the most important subject on the bbs, but i was just wondering what other people thought hakeem would be doing after his playing days (whether thats in 1,2, or 3 years). personally, i think that broadcasting is out. i don't think hakeem has the talent for quick commentary (hell even barkley sounds stiff at times now that he gets paid to talk). i actually think hakeem would want to be an assistant coach. i know a lot of people would disagree, but remember that hakeem benefitted from another famous center's tutoring. i think hakeem would be the type of player who would want to pass along his knowledge to the next guy.... ------------------
He'll be going to Aculpuco on business. ------------------ www.swirve.com...The reason Al Gore invented the internet.
Hakeem has tried to be very actively involved in the business community here. Further, I dont know exactly what his connections are still in Nigeria, but I can imagine he might be doing a lot of good will and that kind of stuff. Finally, he is still a devoute Muslim and I am sure this will continue to play a large part in his life. ------------------
First of all, let's hope he's playing hoops for us next year.Since that seems pretty much up in the air at best, let's assume he IS gone. Can you imagine Dream announcing a game???I love the big guy,but hearing him do a basketball game would be painful unless it was in his native language.Dream:This team needs to fockass, get the ball into the big man,and they will be unbeatable....Costas: Dream, this is a family show and by the way... the Suns don't have a legitimate center. Dream:Really,I thought there was something strange about most NBA teams these days..Costas:Come back Dream, where are you going?..Dream:have to go find Jerry..... Coaching would seem to be out,as he has so many other business interests and a relatively new bride. He's given 18 years to us so let #34 enjoy the rest of what life has to offer.Remember,he's a citizen of the world in the truest sense. In fact,if he is going to be out of Houston a lot,I could envision him travelling all over the globe in some capacity. The Moses situation was a special case of him taking Dream under his wing, not only working on his game ,but, tutoring him on what to expect out of life here and in the NBA.....and he threw in all his old suits.. (Dream would NEVER do that) Coach Olajuwon:Now come over here to the baseline and make this sick shot I came up with...It's real easy..I call it the Dreamshake..You might have to work on your footwork. Cato:Huh? After Dream delivers a Billy Paultz like slap to Cato's grill...Clyde,get another one of our ten centers over here. Dream:Clyde!.....Clyde?? Clyde:ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ,oh yeah,sorry.....when is that tee time,Reid? ------------------ If I had my life to live over,I would have liked to have ended up as a sportswriter - Richard M. Hopefully it would involve a small ownership stake in the Rockets. ------------------ Founder and President of the Houston Homers Club(HHC) - Are you a homer? Join now! The Rockets will be NBA champions. Believe.
Someone introduces him to Clutch BBS, and he can post a weekly column here. ------------------ "It is like 'Lord, give me my soldiers, and I will take you to the promise land.' That is what he does." ........ Sam Cassel on Hakeem in 95 playoffs
I've noticed an "Olajuwon Corporation" building on the Beltway West below I-10. I've never gone in. Does anyone know what it is? ------------------ I BELIEVE!
He goes to Nigeria, recruits a 7 foot Nigerian to go to UH, who then is drafted by the Rockets. The Circle of Life. Woo hoo! ------------------ humble, but hungry.
It would be nice to see him offered an executive / assistant coach position in the organization, if he wants one. Hakeem has a lot to offer in terms of big-man basketball knowledge. I'll bet that he goes into private business, though. ------------------ I'm about to boldly go where many men have gone before.
Actually PSJ,it would be so cool if he took an active stance on the impasse between the land of academia and the athletic program at UH.Along with the large contributions of Moores and others,I would like to see many of the athletic alumni get involved with money and leadership. The hoops program has been getting the shaft for a long time just because the university won't spend the money on a big time coach that can recruit.Clyde had the right idea, but,it wasn't realistic for him.The president needs to free up the funds to hire a top flight coach that can keep some of the top talent from the state here as well as recruiting well outside...There's no excuse for the dropoff from the Guy V. years down to now. Those idiots that control the funds over there should have realized that CUSA was going to become a top basketball conference eventually(thus being a cash cow) and hired Tubby when they had the chance for an extra 50K.Now,it will cost us 1 mil/yr or so to bring someone here that can quickly upgrade, otherwise we are in for more years of mediocrity at best.Nothing against Coach MacCallum, but we need one of the big boys.Dream is the perfect person to take up this fight now,so we don't have to endure the "philosophy" of the university administration. This is a project that he could do in conjunction with the rest of his life for awhile, til it's done. ------------------ If I had my life to live over,I would have liked to have ended up as a sportswriter - Richard M.
