Actually, Cato has only missed eight dunks this year, while Hakeem missed 285 last year. You won't find me sticking up for either one of these guys, but if you're gonna pull numbers out of your ass, at least be more imaginative.
Cato is not looking good. I've been to a couple games, and he is just weak. I've played ball, actually, and I feel like I can spot duds. I guess you guys already say that he stinks, but I was waiting to see for myself. As a fellow athlete all I can say is that he's lost his potential. Turn him over, he's done.
If we were so intent on speeding up the maturation process of this team, why did we sign Rice? Isn't he another over the hill player who needs touches to be effective? It was real contradiction what the Rockets did, but its over now. I can guarantee you when the playoffs start and the Raptors make it, Hakeems presesnce will be felt.
I dont think any of us really feel that the team is better with Cato instead of Dream....I think all we are trying to get across is that play for play and most importantly dollar for dollar the decision was correct to let him walk. Its true his numbers aren't really accurate in Toronto because they have VC stealing the show.....but isn't that y he was so unhappy here, so he said. I think he wanted the BBD Bigger Better Deal.....he wanted money. He got it so he walked. He couldnt have honestly thought that going to an Eastteam, especially the Raptors, (no offense to the fans) would bring him another ring. DOnt think so. Dont get me wrong I would much rather have him here even giving his present numbers....his prescence alone is something we desperately need, and Im sure the Rox org was really kicking themselves because they couldnt give Dream Cato's salary and let him walk (once again no offense to the fans) Bottom Line Cato is no Dream, Dream is now nothing but a dream and wet dreams are always fun.....
Who was worried about "getting him touches"? Why don't you ask Francis and Mobley if they would rather have Hakeem at the 5 than Cato. Francis was still "the man" last year while Hakeem was around and the Rockets were making a playoff push. Winning speeds up the maturation process. Being a professional speeds up the maturation process. This team is more immature this year than they were last year.
Freak, This year and last year are not a fair comparison, especially with all the injuries. In addition, I believe we were losing last year until Dream decided to start playing in January. DaDakota
What Drug Suspension? Hard to provided leadership for 15 games. . .WHEN YOU IN Street clothes on the sideline Rocket River
Alot of the Hakeem apologists in here talked a bit about "leadership". If by "leadership" you mean the Rockets no longer have a man they can count on to smoke and joke in the Heat's locker room before running to the media as fast as he can to gush about how great it would be to be playing in Miami before that very season was over then, yes, the Rockets are sorely lacking since Hakemm's gone. Whoever it was that posted about watching Hakeem getting abused by the Kandi Man, you hit the nail on the head. That was so unbelievably sad. It's truly disturbing when an honest to God superstar fails to realize that he's nothing but a caricature of himself.
First of all that whole thing about Miami was blown out of proportion by the media. I don't know why people would have a hard time accepting that. The media does it all the time. Secondly Hakeem called Rudy on his radio show, to apologize and make sure there were no hard feelings. That takes some guts, and that might be the kind of leadership they were talking about. It's sad when people cling to the negative image, but refuse to acknowledge that Hakeem did the right thing, and went the extra effort by making the call, and he did it live on the radio at that. To me it's not so much about mistakes; Everybody makes mistakes. But, it's about how people rebound from the mistakes. At this point it doesn't matter whether or not the Rockets should have kept Hakeem, because he's gone, and the team has to play with the players they have now. But there's no reason to go back and trash a player especially when you only present the first half of a story, and even then it's in an exaggerated representation.
DD- we were losing because Rudy used to play Matt Bullard or Kenny Thomas at center in the 4th qt early in the yr. I use to scream at the tv when Hakeem was on the bench or getting waved out the post in the 4th. I guess Rudy thought he'll throw him a bone and he'll happily go away. I think the damage was done early in the season. Matt Bullard and Thomas at the 5
From ESPN today: Game notes Toronto C Hakeem Olajuwon left the game in the second quarter with a swollen right knee. He did not return. Hakeem is out again, time for all of you to realize that Cato is better then Hakeem at this stage of their careers. Hard to believe isn't it. DD
Not sad, just reality, it hits us all. It doesn't diminish what Dream accomplished at all, it just shows that sometimes blind loyalty is not what is best for the team. DD
Agreed, Hakeem should have retired two maybe three years ago: he is now a shadow of this former self, BUT, comparing Cato to Hakeem in any context reminds me of a movie I saw years ago. It was a film festival, student video project entitled, Bambi vs. Godzilla. Godzilla won.
It's really a downer to see Hakeem playing out of a Rocket's uniform, but I agree that he should be off of this Rockets team. I just wish he had retired instead of switched teams. This Rockets team needs a good center and still does if Cato can't keep playing really good ball, but keeping Hakeem would not have been the answer. This season would probably have gone better with Hakeem at the 5, but this season has really been a good year for the young Rocket's team to get experience and figure out their faults, their strengths, what they are lacking as a team, and each player's potential. With Hakeem out, other players get to shine more. I doubt EG or Cato would be getting as much playing time as this year and I don't think it can be denied that when they all play their hearts out EG, Cato, Francis and Mobley can be deadly when you combine them with the decent bench the Rockets have. Yes, it was time for Hakeem to go and let the Rockets begin the transition to this new younger team. And I also agree that this teams playing style is different from the old Rockets team, I'm not sure if Hakeem would have fit in as well, but that's left to speculation now. Sooner or later Hakeem would have had to leave in a year or two even if he did stay with the Rockets, and it wouldn't be good for the young Rockets to get used to having the Dream there, instead it's the young Rockets now that have a chance to really bond together as a team and play some awesome ball with each other for a long time to come. Oh, it was a bad idea to get Rice, Rockets didn't need him.
