Hakeem Olajuwon. ------------------ Protrolls.com! "I want to be like Olajon." -Sagana Diop has the right idea... Keep the ???? alive!
The destroyer of the 2001 Rocket's offseason plans because of his stall technique. ------------------
Surely they have to have talked to his agent at least? And hakeem probably has a phone wherever he is... can't they call him or something? ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
Rocket Fan, Did you miss oeilpere's thread a couple of days ago? Apparently, Dream has been in Houston for days now, but says to be "not available." He is back, and the Rockets want to talk to him, but if he's shutting down the communication what can they do? ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. Either could be remembered as the greatest Houston sports figure ever ( With a very happy ride off into the sunset over the next couple years) or An all time great player who burned his bridges by bitter contract negotiations, complaints about his role, and disagreements with the all time greatest Rocket coach ------------------

thecat.. oh thanks for the info. been busy and hadn't gotten a chance to read through the thread.. if he is really in town and doing this then i'm about to say forget him and move on.. he shouldn't treat us like this.. unless maybe there is a family issue or some reason that he is unavaiable. if he is just being unavaiable to try and stall for lots of money etc that really upsets me.. seems to me like if i needed to discuss a multi million dollar contract i'd make myself avaiable ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
Anyone want to tell me why Hakeem would want to delay the free agent thing? Why would it do him any good in terms of getting better terms? ------------------
KD, He takes away the alternatives. The longer he waits, more and more free agent centers like Mohammed and Jackson will commit, and he believes the Rockets will probably become desperate and overpay because he is the only center that could help the team on the market. ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. But Cat, it looks like Hakeem's alternatives are being taken away, too. Miami has been the team that he was most interested in joining, outside of Houston. If they sign Pat Ewing, there goes one of his best opportunities. Toronto, which had a huge interest a few years ago, is re-signing its own guys and so probably has no need for Dream now. Mohammed's and Jackson's signings will take away 2 more potential venues for his services. In the end, Hakeem and the Rockets may be stuck with each other. ------------------ I'm so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. I am so hip that I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis.
"In the end, Hakeem and the Rockets may be stuck with each other." Good. I'd rather have Hakeem for two years than any of those free agent centers for longer. Jackson put up decent numbers on an atrocious team, and played less than half the season (Hakeem played more). Nazr was a typical 4 point 4 rebound player before being traded to the horrific team of Atlanta, where he put up decent numbers. Meanwhile, Hakeem may not be in his prime, but he is STILL the best veteran on the Rockets, and their best low post option. He is most definitely, still the symbol of the franchise. Maybe not to the thousand of you on this board, but to everyone else, he is the symbol. Listen to the cheers in the starting lineups! ------------------ Protrolls.com!
