Hey Raptors: Told ya so! Olajuwon on injured list Copyright 2001 Houston Chronicle News Services TORONTO -- The Toronto Raptors placed center Hakeem Olajuwon on the injured list with an infected toe and activated center Michael Stewart. Olajuwon, who was acquired from the Rockets on Aug. 2 for two draft picks, is averaging 8.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 24 games this season. Olajuwon, 38, has missed the past four games because of the infected toe on his left foot. He won't be eligible to play until Jan. 8, meaning he will miss at least five more games. Twice this year he's had nine blocks in a game. Stewart, 26, was placed on the injured list Oct. 29 with a sore left knee and hasn't played this season. Last year he averaged 1.3 points and four rebounds per game.
another bizarre injury for Hakeem, what a surprise, surely it's time for him to get chicken pox or something
Sure, injuries don't happen to anyone but Hakeem....or Shaq or Vince Carter, or Francis, or Camby, or Glen Rice, or Chris Webber, or Grant Hill or Zo or Vin Baker or Terrell Brandon or Antonio McDyess or Theo Ratliff or Allen Iverson or Ray Allen or Jamal Mashburn.... all those guys should retire since they have missed games due to injury...
I think my original prediction of Olajuwon playing 60 games this season may come to form. It's funny that the Raptors beat the Lakers last night in LA with the Dream on the Injured List. From the way things were talked about, I got this impression that Olajuwon was the "last piece of the puzzle" for them, the Raptors, to make the NBA Finals. Yet, that "last piece of the puzzle" has not played in a while, and the Raptors are doing just fine, one may argue even better, without him. Hmmm....I don't understand how this is possible?
I wouldn't worry about Dream being injured too much. Still plenty of time left in the season. I think the Raptors' strategy was to use him during the playoffs run anyway, so resting him now is the smart thing to do. I still believe that a rejuvenated Hakeem will do some great things for that franchise.
It sucks that Dream is on the IR - I have him on both my fantasy teams (for sentimental reasons ) and he is still a valuable contributor for steals, blocks and rebounds....but it had to be expected...60 games sounds like a realistic prediction.
Why is it that most big men suffer injuries late in their careers? I always hear about Olajuwon, Ewing, Robinson getting injured. Do big men get hurt more easy than others?
I guess they're more susceptible to injuries because of the extra weight they're carrying and the impact on their feet and knees from jumping so much. Everyone gets injured more often late in their careers though... Actually lately, EVERYONE gets injured more often, young or old, big or small...
I wish i could say that about Karl Malone the guy is a freak ! missed only 7 games in his whole career ... amazing .
What did you tell them? What will you win for that? An official membership to the "I hate Hakeem Olajuwon and wish the Rockets never won any championships" Fan Club? That can't be, you founded that club. Why is that funny? Shaq wasn't playing. Even if he was, I'd hardly call it "funny". Olajuwon was acquired by Toronto for the playoffs, not the regular season. Nice try though, in your endless pursuit to bash Hakeem Olajuwon.
Wasn't my quote...you'll have to ask Old School about that one, "Francis". Nice try though in trying to muddle different posters and their quotes to cause confusion. That is a trait that you do very well, I might add. Nice try again, but we have been through this song and dance before, Freaky. I could try to give you some witty response, but as usual, it will be for naught, so I just say this: bringing up the same ole stuff is weak and doesn't warrant a response. How's that for a "zinger"?? Anybody knows that the Lakers are still one of the top teams in the NBA because they have, IMO, the best and second-best players in the game, in Shaq and Kobe. To beat the Lakers with Kobe playing and the rest of a solid supporting cast is impressive even with Shaq out. The fact that the media was trumpeting the Raptors to be a finals contender in the East due to the addition of Olajuwon makes it ironic to me that the Raptors would beat the 2-time defending champions on their home floor without him, regardless of Shaq playing. If you can't see that, then there's not much I can say or do for you. About all I can do is to ask for you not to get your panties in a wad, but that's about it. Nice try, but the regular season does count , buddy. Just ask the Rockets in '93 if that's not a true statement. If Olajuwon plays 60 games or less in the regular season, that will hurt the Raptors chances of getting one of the top seeds in the Eastern playoffs. Once again, if you can't see that, there's not much hope for you. Also, this doesn't even get into the fact that the Raptors will probably have to monitor Dream's minutes because he will be out-of-shape and lost the little conditioning he had. I was getting a little worried there, bitterness boy, in that you were never going to respond in this thread. I'm glad to see that you did not let me down. Really, I'm sure that you're a great guy in real life, but you shouldn't let a BBS get your blood pressure going. I would hate to know that you suffered a stroke in typing up a post here to one of my posts.
HUH? LOL. Where did I indicate that I was quoting you? So everytime I quote someone, you automatically assume it's you? Don't flatter yourself. I've actually never seen you post anything "witty". For a "zinger", that wasn't very good. As long as you continue your relentless Hakeem-bashing, I will continue to point it out. Sorry if you consider that "bringing up the same ole stuff". "Anybody" knows the Lakers are still one of the top teams when Shaq is out because they have "in Manny's opinion", the 2nd-best player in the NBA? What kind of a statement is that? Kobe Bryant is now better than Tim Duncan? Chris Webber? I don't see him being the go-to on his team either like Iverson or Vince Carter. Bryant has done nothing but play second-fiddle to Shaq. I guess you thought Pippen was the second-best player in the league as well when he was on the Bulls? The Lakers suck without Shaq, plain and simple. Did you even see the lineup they trotted out there? Medvedenko and Samaki Walker? Yikes. I'm sorry that there's "not much you can do for me". I'd actually have to agree with you there. The media was trumpeting the Raptors as a finals contender in the East? What difference does it make what the media says? Who in the media picked the Rockets to make the playoffs? No one. Did you agree with them? But suddenly you use the media now to make a point? Besides, why the heck wouldn't anyone pick the Raptors to be a "finals contender"? They were the third best team in the East last year, for crying out loud. They took Philly to seven games in the Conference semis last year. So why wouldn't they be a finals contender? They could have made zero additions, and been a finals contender. The Raptors acquired Hakeem for the playoffs, not the regular season. Once again, the Raptors were the third best team in the East last year without Hakeem, taking Philly to seven games in the conference semis. Losing Hakeem for a few games this year will have little impact to their playoff chances. They are hoping he will be available in the playoffs, that's why they acquired him. The Raptors have been monitoring Hakeem's minutes all year, so as to help ensure that he's available for the playoffs. You are not saying anything new, just slamming Hakeem, again. Aahh, resorting to name-calling. Always a sure sign that you have a point. You're wrong. I'm not a great guy in real life, and what you type does little for my blood pressure. There you go again, flattering yourself.
You know, I really don't understand the joy some people get out of bashing Hakeem Olajuwon. My God, just let the man go on in peace. You are in denial if you can't accept that this city would not still have the Rockets if it weren't for Dream.
ROTFLMFAO!!!! Let me get this straight, Jeff Keith, you have been here like since the dawn of the time, but yet instead of addressing 2 or more people in one post by name, you just throw out quotes randomly? Sorta like this, huh? That's a good point, but I think you are being too literal here. Some players are more injured-prone than others, and especially it's true with Olajuwon because he has missed significant action the last 2 seasons & looks like more of the same for this season. That's not a coincindence, but a trend, IMO. See what I mean, Jeff? Actually, that's fun. I may have to do that from now on. Thanks for the idea! Something tells me that you wouldn't know what witty was if it bit you in the ass, but that's besides the point. Let me guess what you got for Christmas? A beeper that always goes off when Hakeem is being "bashed". I hope it has been working because I don't save all my Olajuwon bashing for this board, BTW. Yea, the Lakers really suck without Shaq at 2-2, there, Jeff. If I'm not mistaken, I think that the lakers have had a winning record or close to it in the last several seasons when Shaq is out, but I can't tell you for sure. But, it doesn't matter anyway, because I am "debating" (highly questionable term) with someone who uses opinions and conjectures. So, you'll understand if I don't break my neck looking for that stat. Duncan is the only one of your list that would challenge Kobe for the 2nd best player. And if you think that both Vince and Webber are better than Kobe, Duncan, or Garnett, then you are seriously on drugs, dude. Just mentioning Webber's name as the 2nd best player in the league reeks of pure idiocy. Yea, I guess the Kings really destructed and sucked without CWebb just like the Lakers without Shaq? Another classic Freak tactic: take words and scrutinize for "literality". It wouldn't do any good to respond to this jumbled mess, so I'll have to decline to address this "left-field" point. I like how you convienently failed to address the conditioning there, Jeff. Also, I take it that you are admitting that Olajuwon doesn't have that big of a role on the Raptors (how can he if his minutes are being monitored?), but all of the sudden, he is magically going to play 40 or more minutes in the playoffs despite being lucky to play 60 games and struggling with his condition. Damn, dude. I knew you liked him, but now you're making him out to be some Magician like David Copperfield. If you believe that, then bully for you. There's also a bridge in Brooklyn that I would like to sell you.... I had a good teacher there. You taught me well. So, you are admitting that you are a prick in real life? Boy, I have to say that you have some nuts to do that dude. I wish I could admit the same. And on the contrary, I do think that I get to you because you are like a damn Pavlovian dog. I know that I can post something about Olajuwon and like on command, expect a mountain of drivel and incoherence from you. I think haven said it best when he said, "Ah, pulling the red-blooded (idiot) American act, again, I see. I'm not to blame for you being unsophisticated. Look after your own education before arguing with people who happen to have found some level of intellectual sophistication. Go drink a beer and polish your gun, loser." So, I'm sorry that I don't have a monster truck that you have to step on the tires to open the door or a 12 pack of beer in my frig there, Jeff, I mean Billy Bob, I mean, damn what's your name again, oh, Freak, that's it. So, I don't think that I can get on your "level". I'm surprised that you could put together complete sentences. I figured that since you like to use opinions and conjectures instead of facts and links, then you would have a tough time putting a complete sentence together. You must have been doing some extra studying while you were in vocational school because you do a good job in putting a complete sentence together. It is pretty well-known that you are a joke and a grade-A loser on this BBS. As much fun as it has been in subjecting in these mindless debates with you, it doesn't do me any good because it doesn't help me in improving my posting or provide anything that is informative to this BBS, although it is entertaining. So, this will be my last post in this thread. However, I know that you, Billy Bob, being the Pavlovian dog that you are (you'll have to look that up, I'm not telling you what it means) you'll have to respond with something. I guarandamntee that you can't post a response to this post. Now, I hope that you excuse me, as I look for ways to contribute to this BBS besides the occasional entertaining posts with yourself and the rest of your looney tunes club aka the Olajuwon's **** don't stink club.
Dream should seriously look into becoming a doctor. The guy has had the most amazingly varying array of injuries. He has probably learned enough from the doctors he has spoken to to be the team doctor for the Rockets (or Raptors) after he retires. I wonder if the Ramadan (sp?) played a role in this. Dream always claimed it didn't and that he felt much better during this fasting period, but what team doctor would possibly condone not drinking any fluids during a game? That had to have some adverse effect on his health, long term and short. But that is one of the things I admire most about Dream. He was devout, and didn't allow sports to get in the way of what he thought was important. There is dignity and honor in that.
