I have been using Wahl clippers, since i replace them often, but now looking to buy a clipper of better quality. Andis or Oster, but leading towards Andis. However, I'm curious about the Oster 76. I'm also interested in the quality of the attachments combs for both and whether they heat up easily or not. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Oster 76 seems kinda pricey. I bought a few Wahl clippers awhile back and found them all to be complete trash. Never used Andis so I can't comment on that. I bought these Oster clippers and they cut through my thick hair with ease. They feel kinda bulky and heavy at first but you get use to it. that something else i should have asked...I'll be cutting no longer than a #2, so would a liner work just as well as a regular clipper? I'm guessing it may take a little bit longer and maybe the motor would be more likely to heat up? Javal_lon, I have thick hair, straight.
Yeah i tried out this Andis yesterday and it heated up like a b****....but i figured it was due to the motor type and maybe because it wasn't a high end model. http://www.amazon.com/Andis-75360-Easy-Haircutting-black/dp/B0040KOUI4 It did cut significantly better than any Wahl though, that's for sure.
So I should be ok cutting my whole head with a liner/trimmer, instead of just using to edge and detail? Any reason to use a regular clipper at all then? I won't be cutting any longer than a #2.
If the liner/trimmer (and attached comb) is good, then no need for a regular clipper, especially if you keep it at #2. Take my advice, I'm Middle Eastern and I'm a barbershop owner lol For some reason, the brand MOSER is huge here, but not sure why. I'm going to give this Oster a try and see how it goes.
I believe Moser and Wahl are either the same or connected somehow. I think it may be what the Jordan Brand is to Nike.
I would go with those andis clippers you posted from amazon for $19.00. That's a good deal for what you are trying to do. The Andis T-outliner that I use is good if you want to shave your head bald. #0.
I'm going to get the Andis Improved Master or the Fade Master this week....i realize it's the same clipper, but with different blades. However, I've recently read some reviews that state the fade blade isn't made to be used with attachments, and it's primarily for really short cutting/blending (#1 or less). Anyone know if this is this true?
I use the Andis Improved Masters as my general all-around clipper for my haircuts and the T-outliner for the line ups. They can be used with clipper guards/attachments; I use them to lower the height of my hair along with fading. Even when I wasn't doing my own cuts, and going to the barbershop, Before these improved masters, my barber would use different clipper guards/attachments with the Fade Masters also. They have a whole host of universal guards that fit the Improved/Fade master clippers; I use the red Speed 0 Guide clipper guards because that's what I saw my barber using.
I've gone through 2 wahls already, not a fan of their flimsy plastic attachments and wanted to do something about getting new clippers for a while now, but just been lazy about it, good thing this thread got revived with good recommendations. What material are the attachments on Andis? plastic? high quality solid/hard plastic?
I'm going to go with the purple magnetic clips. Seems like they have the best reviews and are the most durable. Yeah, i thought it was weird that people said the Fade Masters would eat up the attachments, since i've also seen them used with attachments....i'll probably go with the Improved Master just to be sure. Its suppose to be harder plastic, that won't bend. I'm going with the magnetic ones, so they won't fall off either. How do you guys keep your blades sharp? I have the newer Andis Outliner and the baldes are starting to lose their sharpness. I know you can buy new blades, but I've heard sharpening is an option.
The people that were complaining about the clippers eating up attachments have their clipper blade situated in a way, when closed, the blade will give the closest cut for better fades . I had a problem with my improved masters eating attachments too, but I have since been more careful when I am adjusting the blade; I don't completely close the blade when I'm using attachments. So doesn't matter which one you get. IMO, if your clippers came with attachments, the clipper isn't barbershop quality. Oster has a couple of clippers, The 76 being the best, that have detachable metal blades that you can switch out. The detachable blades can also be used with universal clipper guard attachments that are usually made of a hard plastic and can be used with any clipper. I sent in some of my old Blades to get sharpened at premier 1, just to try it out http://www.premier1supplies.com I got them back and they weren't sharpened at all but I think It was because I didn't take off all the screws in the blade first before sending. I probably could have called and told them the problem, but didn't bother. I've been meaning to try it again or find some type of sharpening service around town if the need arises. Have you tried simply zeroing out the clipper blade? My blade is fine just doing that; still get crisp lines without sharpening. I've also been meaning to try out a new thinner blade, which say yield the same results of a sharpened one. The brand of blade escapes me though.
