    ... this was written about?

I've eliminated a few words which would be too revealing. I'll post the answer and the author later:

""... there was a battle starting up all over again... Whose intelligence was accurate? Whose was truthful? Who was trying to manipulate The White House and who believed that by coloring or twisting facts that he could change the course of history? ... was leading (an) administration capable of making extraordinary mistakes. And there were people at the heart of (this) Adminstration whose own view of how the world should work were inspiring them to distort facts, mistate intentions, and disregard obvious realities in the hope that their views would prevail."

But doesn't it sound just like the criticisms of the current White House Administration? :D

Yes, it does. And if you know anything about the Cuban missile crisis, some of the military leaders that had their own agenda in the Kennedy administration almost got us into WW III. Is that really the standard you want to follow?

if its w/in the context of vietnam i say lbj rather than kennedy - they could be referencing the gulf of tonkin, which is now acknowledged as being staged by the lbj admin. in order to increase our involvment in vietnam.

or it could be about nixon.

or about mckinley and the spanish american war.

really, since all presidents lie to some degree, it could be about anybody.

Sorry, giddy, but I really could care less about who the quote refers to, be it any of the Presidents, or those in their administrations, of the last several decades.

Is this the, "Hell, folks, Bush broke the law, lied, deliberately misrepresented the facts, and crapped on the Constitution? Who cares! Bad stuff happened in other administrations, so why does it matter??" Is that was this is about?

I think Bush is the living embodiment of the Peter Principal. Oh, and here's an old cliché for you... two wrongs don't make a right. Pretty simple, isn't it.

Good work Agent27, but you were asked to "guess" not to "research."

The point was not to get the answer right but to see how many Administrations this could be descriptive of. Some of you got the point but...

... the winner is basso who gets a date with Agent 99-- an all expense paid vacation for two to Roswell, New Mexico.. :D

The author, Philip Corso, served under Presidents Truman, Eisenhower and Kennedy lastly as Chief of the Army's Foreign Technology Division in the Kennedy Administration.
