About Pau I'm thinking this is going to be his breakout year based on his domination in the Olympics.
Which should bode very well for the Grizz.

I also love the combined defense efforts of J Pose and Bonz.

The difference between the Pistons and the Grizzlies is that the Pistons had a deep and talented front-line. The Grizzlies don't have that, especially defensively. Nice team, but they don't have any stars. I think the Pistons model was the exception that proves the rule. I am not saying that the Grizzlies won't win 50 games, or be a contender, but I don't see the upside with that roster.

The Grizzlies with their depth are built to do well in the long and gruling NBA regular season. They can afford injuries and still plug people in. They can run night after night because their player are fresh. But in the playoffs when the games are more of a slow down pace and stars become more of a factor that's where the Grizz did and will continue to have problems until they get another player to complement Pau's game. Pau needs to step up and establish himself as THE go to guy on the team and they need a star side kick for him, perhaps a Ray Allen type player.

The Pistons defensive front line and excellant outside shooting (Hamilton) were a nice mix that worked for them. While the Grizzlies are a similar team to the Pistons in terms of "lack of stars" they arent similar in skillsets. They dont have similar defense and they dont have as good clutch shooting.

No team is going to duplicate what the Pistons have done. They had a stacked team that was willing to play together and play defense.

Ben Wallace (defensive player of the year, all star)
Rasheed Wallace (former all-star that led portland to the WCF)
Rip Hamiliton (top five sg in the league)
Chauncey Billips (top 10 pg in the league)
Prince (A guy that made the pistons pass on Melo)

Only Gasol has the ability of any of the Piston's starting five but he plays no D.

Seriously, that's the most r****ded view I've ever heard.

You're putting your money on other stars going down for your team to improve? If that doesn't spell "trouble", then I don't know what does.

If Pau goes down, you won't make the playoffs.

If you guys don't make another move, you'll struggle getting in the wil wild west:

    Kings
    Spurs
    Rockets
    Wolves
    Nuggets

are all locks. You will be competing with:

    Mavs
    Jazz
    Blazers
    Lakers
    Suns

for a spot. Are you in the top 3 of that second group, even with Pau? Fact of the matter is, it doesn't matter much if Pau improved over the summer, because in your style of play, individual improvement won't even be recognized because it's so team-oriented. That's why the Kings have been the same team for the past 4 years.

The Pistons are the only TEAM-TEAM to win the title in the last 10 years or so. That's what you're betting on? You're hoping:

    1) Key franchise players go down in your favor.
    2) You can emulate the exception in the last 10 years for your improvement.

You always used to say how we overrate our Rockets.... You seriously don't think you're a little guilty of doing so yourself?

Sane, this guy just went into the Sura thread today to taunt Rox fans over a player injury. IMO, i think you're wasting your time trying to reason w/ him.

To ask the question directly: Jerry West is standing pat. That is what he is and has done.

To the between-the-lines question: Jerry wanted Dampier, but the warriors wanted too much. Jerry played the waiting game and lost. But he wasn't going to give the warriors what they wanted so it was a gain.

To the more general question: Jerry wants a center like parcells wants a quarterback. And to quote parcells when told he needs a quarterback, his relpy: no ****. You can't just find a tom brady or steve mcnair looking to come to your team. It takes time.

And time is really what Jerry is doing. He is waiting for the right opprotunity to make a move.

Hopefully, next year I believe, he'll have a chance to nab maglorie. Maybe this year, in a trade, because I believe that is the one center that could put us over the top.

Magloire would be a great fit on the Grizzlies actually. However, don't you think Toronto have a better chance at him, especially if Carter stays?
