So my roommates and I got a little charcoal grill and we've been doing up steaks and burgers. Thing is I think we're putting on too much lighter fluid. What we do is stack up the charcoal, then just drench it in fluid and light it. Then when the flame dies down, we pour more fluid on to make it burn more. I think we're doing it wrong, but I'm not sure. Any tips?
I had same problem so i bought the "lighter fluid" ready coals or something....the ones that dont need lighter fluid and all you need is a match...theyve worked well for me and my roommates...been great for the UT games except we sucked it up this wknd...hope that helps
Not sure why you'd need to refuel your fire. put about 20-30 coals on one side of your grill. Spray lighter fluid towards the base of your coals, and light the b*stard. Walk away for 10 minutes, until the coals are white-hot, and put the meat on. If you're having to refuel your fire, you're probably only lighting the top of your coals. Hope that helps.
I used to have the same problem. Now I stack it up in the middle and drench the sucker in fluid. Make sure you get all the coals. Just dont pour it straight on the top. Get all the sides too. Wait about 3-4 min and then light the fire. Should burn nice and easy. If you see it going out just get a big piece of cardboard and fan it for two to three minutes.
just get the pre-soaked charcoal. the little bit of extra cash is well worth not having to deal w/ all that lighter fluid nonsense. you just light the coals, wait about 15 minutes and your good to go.
Thanks for all the help guys. I think the trick is getting all the coals with the fluid. No more refueling from now on.
buy the regular charcoals and get yourself a blowtorch. dont use lighter fluid at all. just torch 4-5 charcoals around the base for 1 minute each and then wait 10 min. come back and all the charcoals will be grey and hot and ready to go.
Here's a tip: When stacking the coals, leave a hole in the middle to allow air flow thru the pile. This will get the fire going quickly in the middle, which will spread out afterwards.
Use a charcoal chimney not lighter fluid. Also Walmart now carries the green gel that works very good with no after taste. Green sheets work fine in a Charcoal chimney!
